Single-family homes from the early 1900s are most common in Wesley Heights. “Most of the houses come in arts and crafts or bungalow styles,” says Thompson. “However, you’ll see a few exceptions here and there, like more modern construction.” Town houses and condos in the area are typically historic buildings that maintain their original infrastructure but have newly renovated interiors. Structural renovations are regulated to protect the buildings' architectural integrity and unique features, like ornate trim, bright colors and original red brick. Across the board, properties in Wesley Heights typically have two or three bedrooms and cost between $350,000 and $675,000. Roads are tree-canopied and lined with skinny sidewalks, manicured lawns and the occasional hilly slope or white picket fence. While some homes may have a small driveway, most locals park on the street.

Walking along the Greenways
Stewart Creek Greenway, a 1 1/2-mile segment of the larger Thread Trail, connects to Wesley Heights Greenway and Uptown Charlotte. Trail-goers can bike or hike along the Greenway and often come across herons, ducks and waterfowl on their path. Westley Heights Greenway is a more extensive, 3-mile nature preserve and creekside path that stretches across multiple neighborhoods. The trail is open year-round, and dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed. Seversville Park is less than 1/2 a mile north of the neighborhood and is a more traditional park space for children and families. It features a small playground with swings, a picnic area and paved paths for walking and biking.

Students can attend Bruns Avenue Elementary School, which is located inside the neighborhood and has a C rating on Niche, or Oaklawn Language Academy. High schoolers can attend Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology, which has a B rating and is Niche’s third-place standout high school in Charlotte.
