Historic neighborhood near Lookout Mountain
St. Elmo, 10 minutes from Chattanooga, is a historic neighborhood next to Lookout Mountain. Quiet and surrounded by woodland, the neighborhood has an even balance between city life and peaceful living. “St. Elmo is one of the most interesting areas in Chattanooga, it used to be its own functioning city before it was incorporated. The last 50 years has been an act of preserving the architecture, so it’s got a ton of historic charm and the scenery is beautiful since it’s at the mountain foothill,” says Robert Baker, a local Realtor with United Real Estate Experts and host of the YouTube Channel: Move to Chattanooga. Many of the older homes in St. Elmo were constructed in the early to mid-20th century. Renovations and new construction guidelines are strict in the neighborhood as the city focuses on preserving the antique, small-town feel. Many new houses are built to match the appearance of existing vintage homes with exposed brick and wood paneling. St. Elmo has recently upgraded its parks, street lighting and sidewalks. “It’s a great place for people to relocate because the community is tight-knit and it’s got an old town vibe, but it’s minutes away from modern amenities,” says Baker.
St Elmo is seated immediately at the foot of Chattanooga's iconic Lookout Mountain.
