A mix of homeowners and renters live in the neighborhood

Homes in Old North Columbus date back to the early 1900s. These include American Foursquares, Tudor Revivals, Dutch Colonials and National Folk-style houses. Luyang Yin, a Realtor with Red 1 Realty, says the majority of the houses have been renovated in recent years, adding, “Don’t be afraid of the age.” Even with so many renovations already done, many listings still require at least a little work.

Some residences have been converted to multifamily units. “There’s a lot of single-family homes, but there’s a lot of rentals in the neighborhood as well,” says Kelly McCafferty , Realtor with e-Merge Real Estate and owner of Buckeye Downsizing Services, which organizes estate auctions. “It’s quite a mix... There are long-term residents and a lot of college graduates. It’s a nice transition neighborhood if you’re leaving the Ohio State student housing area before you get to the more established Clintonville .”

You can expect to pay between the low $200,000s and the mid-$500,000s, depending on condition. Fully updated properties are harder to come by, with prices between the mid-$500,000s and the mid-$600,000s.

You can walk from Old North Columbus to OSU or take the bus downtown

The Old North Columbus neighborhood is very walkable, with sidewalks and crosswalks along major roads. “There are tons of restaurants with great walkability,” McCafferty says. It only takes about 20 minutes to get to OSU’s campus. Many residents choose to bike, either riding their own or renting an electric bike or scooter from Veo.

If you’re commuting downtown, which is about a 10-minute drive, or heading into Clintonville for groceries, you’re better off taking the bus or driving yourself. Central Ohio Transit Authority has bus stops along High, Summit and Hudson streets. “When I lived in the area, I worked downtown, and I rode the bus every single day,” says Ty Dawson, a former resident and partner with Buckeye Downsizing Services. If you have a car, you’re likely parking on the street. Depending on where you live, you may need a permit.

We live in SoHud. Great coffee and record shop. But that's about it for the pros. ONLY MOVE HERE IF YOU ARE A STUDENT. SoHud is crowded with students that like to party. Currently listening to our neighbors blast rave music and play beer pong while screaming AND ITS 8AM on SATURDAY. This happens at least twice a week. Also, alleyways are full of trash constantly.

Large college campus nearby, crime is mainly non-violent but rapes have been reported. Cops are overzealous when responding to calls.
