Character-rich early century homes drawing many first-time buyers
Most homes here are early 20th-century classics, with Cape Cods, colonials, bungalows, and Craftsman styles being common. Jamie Maze, a Realtor and team leader at Maze & Company, says the age of the homes is a big draw. “It’s a hidden gem,” she says. “They’re older homes, and the character is incredible.” Lots are usually small, around a tenth of an acre, with houses often just an arm’s length apart. Depending on condition, homes typically sell from the mid-$70,000s to the upper $300,000s. The median sale price for a single-family home is in the mid-$200,000s, higher than nearby areas like Valleyview Heights, Central Hilltop, North Hilltop and Holly Hill. “This is the neighborhood if you want to go for a nice, affordable classic 1920s home,” says Brian Bainbridge, a broker with CRT Realtors. “Many first-time homebuyers don’t want a cookie-cutter home and want to be closer to downtown.”
Driving down any street in the area will reveal early 20th-century homes.

Westgate Park is the heart of the neighborhood, offering a stocked pond, a community center and a 1.2 mile loop. However, the surrounding area also offers a number of options for having fun outside:
Big Run Park is over 270 acres of wooded trails, open fields and wetlands.
River Bend Park has more low key vibes, with plenty of nature and access to the Big Darby Creek area.
