Settled in 1699, Durham is an agricultural town north of New Haven, offering a tapestry of scenic beauty and historic charm. Durham's town center offers a historical feel with the town hall, public library, and a handful of shops along Main Street. The center of town has a distinctly historic feel, with a strip of land lined with several restored homes. Also known as the Main Street Historic District, this 160-acre area of land is home to a variety of historic homes, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
