The nearby Strand offers a scenic route for biking and walking, connecting to neighboring beach towns like Mahattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. The multiuse location Recreation Park is known by locals as "Rec and Park and Library," according to Debbie Miller, recreation specialist at the Joslyn Recreation Center. She explains that there are multiple options for different age groups and types of activities: "The Josyln Center deals with the seniors; they have exercise activities, a senior club, and luncheons all the time." Miller says a spot called "The Club House" is geared toward youngsters, and another facility, "The Check Out," focuses on outdoor activities. "They have pickleball, basketball, tennis, and it's a great place for picnics," Miller says.

The El Segundo Unified School District oversees the city’s public schools, including Richmond Street School, which received the California Distinguished School Award and has a 9-out-of-10 rating on Greatschools. El Segundo Middle School is one of three middle schools in LA county and the sole example in the South Bay to offer the International Baccalaureate Programme, and has an A rating on Niche.
