Secluded golfer’s paradise in southwestern Greensboro
Tucked between Greensboro and Jamestown, Sedgefield's small, quiet suburb is a golfer’s paradise. “If you’re a golf enthusiast and willing to pay a bit more for housing compared to neighboring areas, then it’s ideal for people looking for a small-town community with proximity to larger cities,” says Todd Turner, Realtor for All About You Realty and Greensboro native. The almost 100-year-old Sedgefield Country Club is the community’s biggest draw, housing Professional Golfer Association (PGA) championships and acres of lush, manicured terrain for members to practice their swing. Outside of golf, locals like exploring nearby parks, shopping along Gate City Boulevard, or getting together for weddings and parties at the white and blue French-influenced Sedgefield Manor.

Midcentury ranch homes to massive mansions in Sedgefield
On the area's outskirts, midcentury ranch-style and late 90s New Traditional style homes tend to average around $300,000; these homes include brick and vinyl exteriors and open front porches, along with spacious, grassy yards shaded by towering black oak and longleaf pine trees. Further in the neighborhood near Sedgefield Country Club, Late 20th-century Colonial and Cape Cod-inspired houses range between $460,000 and $650,000 and feature gabled dormer windows and tiled back patios. The neighborhood also features opulent five-bedroom mansions averaging $1.2 million and fixed with well-paved horseshoe driveways that lead out to tree-shaded paved streets; residents here can expect to pay up to $60 dollars in monthly HOA fees, and the golf course is about a 15-minute walk away. Turner says tons of new construction is popping up in subdivisions like Sutton Oaks, where homebuyers can customize their builds, and the Carolina Pines Retirement Community is set to open summer of 2024.

Hitting the green at Sedgefield Country Club
The bread and butter of the community, Sedgefield Country Club, offers a 25-meter pool with a water slide, five tennis courts where local Gate City leagues practice, and, of course, an 18-hole golf course with five sets of tees and green, rolling fairways for all skill levels. Club members can explore the two-acre practice area—designed by a representative of the PGA Tour—fixed with turf and sand landscapes. After practice, members can get lunch catered from local Pastabilities restaurant in the Tudor-styled clubhouse. When they’ve gotten their golf fix, residents like to explore the mile-long fitness and exercise trail and cast their reels in the lake at Hester Park; kids can climb on the nearby jungle gym while parents relax on one of the park’s several tree-shaded benches.

Big crowds for Wyndham PGA tour
The biggest attraction for Sedgefield locals is the Wyndham Championship PGA tour hosted every August at Sedgefield Country Club. “Legends have golfed there—some of the forefathers of golf. It’s a big deal in the area,” says Turner. Residents flock to the greens to watch nationally known golfers compete and dig into local eats and craft beer near the clubhouse. Country club members also like gathering for the club’s monthly Sedgefield’s Signature Grape Nuts for tapas and wine tasting.
