Farmland, Naval Air Station Lemoore and community events
Kings County’s agriculture and manufacturing plants surround Lemoore, a small city 8 miles from Hanford and 33 miles from Fresno. Located near the center of California in the San Joaquin Valley, the city combines the best of rural living with easily accessible shopping centers, schools and highways. Lemoore is attracting more people each year with its growing employment opportunities, and according to 2023 Census data, it now has nearly 27,000 residents. The city is the traditional home of the Tachi Yokuts tribe, who operate a casino and resort six miles south of town. Naval Air Station Lemoore is also just outside the city limits and, with the casino, helps form the area’s economic base. Military personnel often live in Lemoore, and the sense of community the military provides mixes with the city’s family friendly atmosphere. Everyone regularly comes together for events like the Downtown Candy Crawl during the Halloween season and the Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show each March.

New construction, solar panels and rising prices in the San Joaquin Valley
Lemoore’s residential stock is 74% single-family homes, with townhouses and manufactured housing making up a tiny percentage of properties. Many people rent, and 24% of housing is in apartment complexes. Most housing was built between 1970 and 1999, although new construction is gaining ground despite the city limiting the conversion of agricultural land into more commercial or residential areas. The city did this to ensure the small-town feel of Lemoore wouldn’t be changed by urban sprawl .
“The market in Lemoore is very stable. It’s been through ups and downs, but when house prices declined in the last downturn, they didn’t here because of the naval base,” says Ashley Lovrencevic, a Realtor with London Properties with over a decade of experience. “There’s a healthy population of homebuyers who work in the area, like physicians, nurses, educators and military personnel.” Many households take advantage of Lemoore’s abundant sunny days by installing solar panels to lower energy bills. Features like these contribute to the increasingly competitive market, where property prices rose 5% over 2024. Homes sell for a median price of $375,000, nearly equal to the national average.

Classic diners, a downtown lifestyle district and Lemoore Plaza
National quick service and locally owned restaurants cluster along South Lemoore Avenue, which serves as the city’s primary commercial corridor. There are Chinese and Mexican eateries, but the majority of restaurants serve American classics, like White Top Restaurant. Opened in 1965, the old-fashioned diner and drive-through serves patty melts, milkshakes and banana splits. Downtown Lemoore is home to more than 105 small businesses, dining establishments and entertainment venues, many of them on Heinlen and D Streets. Downtown is also the city’s entertainment center, with a movie theater, escape rooms and the Sarah A. Mooney Memorial Museum, an 1893 Queen Anne home containing original town documents and artifacts. Lemoore Plaza sits near the 41 Freeway on and off ramps. The shopping center has a combination of quick-service eateries, retailers, appliance repair shops and a national grocery store.

Four school districts and Lemoore College
Four school districts serve Lemoore. The Lemoore Union Elementary School District earned a B-rating from Niche, has eight schools and offers an after-school enrichment program with tutoring, games and sports. The Lemoore Union High School District has an A-minus ranking and is home to four facilities and a career technical education program with 13 learning pathways. Island Union School District, rated A-minus, is the smallest, with almost 400 students from kindergarten through eighth grade. It also operates Island Union Elementary School, a charter facility known for its agriculture classes. Central Union School District got a B-plus and oversees four campuses, including two on the Naval base. Lemoore College is a local community college with over 60 associate degrees and professional certifications.

Community parks, raceways and Tachi Palace Casino and Resort
The city maintains around 120 acres of parkland, nearly 40 acres of open space and a 117-acre public golf course. Lemoore Youth Sports Complex and the adjacent Lemoore Recreation Center have athletic fields and courts, a dance studio and a commercial event kitchen. Kings Lions Complex is home to a dog park, softball and soccer fields. Heritage Park has a disc golf course, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and a playground. The Lemoore Golf Course was opened in 1928 and was redesigned in 1991 with 18 holes on a challenging 6,500-yard green. There are chipping and putting greens and a driving range in the facility’s practice areas.
The Lemoore Jet Bowl and Lemoore BMX Raceway are adjacent to each other off Highway 41. The Jet Bowl is a speedway with races from March to October each year, and the BMX Raceway is open on Mondays and select weekends year-round. Tachi Palace Casino and Resort is south of town and offers over 2,000 gaming machines in two main areas. In addition to slots and roulette, patrons can play bingo for cash prizes.

Highway 198, Fresno International Airport and short commutes
Highway 198 and Highway 41 intersect in western Lemoore. The 198 leads to Hanford and the naval base, while the 41 goes to Fresno and Morro Bay. Kings Area Regional Transit (KART) operates bus routes through the city, and Fresno International Airport is 35 miles away. Commuters in Lemoore typically have a 22-minute one-way journey to work, shorter than the national average of 27 minutes. There are limited bike lanes, but sidewalks run through much of the town. After gaining city approval, residents can take part in a reimbursement program to repair sidewalks outside their homes.
Naval Air Station Lemoore, agriculture and new businesses
United Health Centers – Lemoore is the city’s primary medical center, with family practices, women’s health specialists and laboratory services. It, along with Naval Air Station Lemoore, Leprino Foods Co, Tachi Palace and Olam International, are the area’s major employers. Significant industrial sectors include the military, food processing, agriculture and healthcare. Retail is becoming more of an economic force, and Lemoore is working with the Retail Strategies company to continue attracting new businesses to the city.

Natural disaster risks, the Lemoore Fire Department and crime rates
Winters in Lemoore are short and moderately cold, while summers are long, dry and quite hot, reaching over 100 degrees in August. Those dry, hot conditions contribute to the city’s wildfire risk. The Lemoore Fire Department and Kings County Fire Department Station 7 work to keep these blazes under control. Earthquakes are the primary environmental threat facing Lemoore. However, poor air quality is another concern, with over 23 days of air pollution extreme enough to cause breathing problems.
According to FBI data, the city’s overall crime rate is 12% below the national average. Violent crime is 23% above the national average, while property crime is 18% below. Vandalism and theft are the most reported crimes.
