Garden Springs
Well-kept 1960s ranch-style homes
The residential areas in Garden Springs feature roads cutting through blocks lined with traditional ranch-style homes and the occasional split-level. Many of these homes date back to the 1960s and feature brick bases, on lots with enough space for mature trees. These trees also provide shade to residents strolling along the narrow sidewalks. “It’s a very nice, older established neighborhood. Many of the residents have been there for 30-plus years,” Lahor says. Peace himself adds: “There are a lot of houses here that are being redone, or have been redone.” Some of the homes also share streets with clusters of two-story brick buildings that house multiple apartment units. Price points here run between $200,000 and $300,000, with some exceeding that range depending on factors like size.Several highly rated schools and Lafayette High’s Pre-Engineering program
Schools serving the neighborhood include Garden Springs Elementary, Beaumont Middle and Lafayette High School, all of which received grades of A-minus or higher from ratings site Niche. Lafayette High is also rated as the fourth-best public college preparatory school in the state. Beaumont Middle is rated among the top 10 best public middle schools in Kentucky. Lafayette High also offers a Pre-Engineering Program that’s intended to provide students with the tools to succeed in fields like engineering, architecture, medicine, computer programming, mathematics and a variety of natural sciences.Local and chain options at the Garden Springs Shopping Center
Although Harrodsburg does provide a direct connection to downtown Lexington, Garden Springs residents don’t need to go that far — or even really leave the neighborhood itself — to find dining and fulfill their shopping needs. The Garden Springs Shopping Center, or the former Turfland Mall property, houses a number of chain restaurants like LongHorn Steakhouse, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and City Barbeque. The local options here include Dad’s Favorites Deli, known for the self-described “distinctively different Cheese Spreads” on every sandwich they make. For grocery needs, residents can go to Kroger located just outside of Garden Springs and west of New Circle Road.Recreational fun at Cardinal Run Park South
Although they’re not all located within Garden Springs itself, residents are close to several parks, including thosethat share the neighborhood’s namesake. Garden Springs Park is located right along Garden Springs Drive and right next to Garden Springs Elementary School. Visitors can take a stroll on a trail, have a picnic or gather with friends for a quick game of pickup basketball. The park remains a community destination even during snowy winter days, when children and teens can often be seen sledding down its hill. Just outside of the neighborhood on New Circle Road is Cardinal Run Park South, where the amenities include several baseball fields and the roughly 3-mile Beaumont walking trail that connects to Harrods Hill Park. There are plans in the comingyears to expand the recreational options here with the addition of Cardinal Run Park North. The combined 193 acres will include a playground, a few more miles of nature trails, a dog park and additional sports fields and amenities.Catching a live show at the Moondance Amphitheater
Also located just outside the neighborhood is the Moondance Amphitheater, an outdoor venue with tiered grass seating. Residents can bring their blankets or set up lawn chairs to enjoy a series of live music and community events during the summer. The amphitheater is located within the Beaumont Centre, a greater retail and office park. In June, the Centre hosts the Summer Nights in Suburbia concert series featuring acts playing genres ranging from jazz to indie rock.Close to the Blue Grass Airport
Garden Springs is among the cluster of neighborhoods in Lexington located closest to the Blue Grass Airport, which is about 4 miles to the west. In addition to Harrodsburg Road, the other major thoroughfare passing right along the neighborhood is New Circle Road. Also called Kentucky Route 4, the road effectively circles — or loops — the core of Lexington. Garden Springs also has a few Lextran bus stops and is located about 3 miles west of UK HealthCare’s flagship Albert B. Chandler Hospital.
