Albany Terrace is close to several locally owned shops and restaurants. Headlands Brewing is just south of the neighborhood on Gilman Street. This outdoor beer garden is constantly packed on the weekends—especially when the weather is nice—and has a kid's play area. Solano Avenue is a vibrant strip of businesses north on the neighborhood's north side, including Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Mexican restaurants. Zaytoon is a Mediterranean restaurant known for dishes like moussaka and mansaf. Gordo Taqueria is a casual counter-serve spot offering traditional tacos and burritos. Shops on the avenue include places like Pegasus Books and Five Little Monkeys toy store. Homes in Albany Terrace are primarily bungalows from the 1920s to 1940s. Some have Tudor features like steep gabled roofs, while others are more Mediterranean, with stucco siding and tile roofs. Most homes are modest, with an average size of around 1,300 square feet. "I think right now inventory is really limited. Everybody is just waiting for more inventory," says Becker. The high school serves approximately 1,100 students and has a 95% graduation rate, with 85% of students attending college. Neighborhood and city parks around Albany Terrace
Jewel's Terrace Park is a small green space between Neilson Street and Peralta Avenue. Several homes on the block back up to it, with backyard gates opening right into the park. Named after former mayor and longtime resident Jewel Okawachi, this park has tennis courts, a basketball court, playgrounds and walking paths. Its proximity to many houses makes it a community gathering spot. Walkers, runners and cyclists use the Ohlone Greenway, a paved trail that runs underneath the BART tracks in the neighborhood. About 2 miles west of the neighborhood, the Albany Bulb is a former landfill that has been turned into a park. This green space juts into the San Francisco Bay and has walking trails along the water. It also has several art installations, including sculptures and graffiti art.
