Woodsy lumber town turned affluent suburb
At the railroad crossing on Lafayette Street, a mural shows a young explorer shining a flashlight through a dark forest. Much like the mural, North Albany is a bright light in a shadowy Pacific woodland. Only a mile north of the historic downtown, North Albany is a mosaic of newer subdivisions and Christmas tree farms. "It's a more affluent part of Albany with nicer houses and larger lots," says Stephanie Spann, an area local and Real Estate Broker at Cadwell Realty Group-Corvallis. "I would call the style of housing 'Pacific Northwest Contemporary,' with wood-accented walls and vaulted ceilings. The wood comes from being in the timber industry, and evergreens are definitely part of the landscape around here."
