Santiam - an essential shopping district in Albany

Named after an Indigenous tribe that inhabited the valley's riverbanks, Santiam is home to a significant shopping center in Albany - the Heritage Mall. Across 33 acres of clothing boutiques and outlets surrounded by ambient restaurants, it is the largest retail hub in the region. With communities of homes centered around Lehigh Park and the glittering surface of Swan Lakes, Santiam is an essential neighborhood with convenience and recreation about 2 miles east of Downtown. "In Albany, there are more homes in an affordable range that line up with people's incomes," says Jill Schuster, who has lived in the area for nearly 20 years as principal broker at Triple Oaks Realty-Corvallis. "We see people living longer terms, which is great for community stability. People are there to live, and they live their whole lives there."
