A walkable neighborhood close to shopping and the Sandias

Academy Estates East is a small residential neighborhood in northeast Albuquerque. A perk of the area is its proximity to the outdoor amenities of the Sandia Mountains for hiking and skiing. "You've got the Sandias as your beautiful Eastside backdrop. Whereas the Westside views are the sunset views," says Torie Robinson, owner/broker with Re/Max Elevate. Another benefit is the walkability, something not all of the city's neighborhoods can claim. "The nice thing about Academy Estates is you are close to a lot of shopping and dining," Robinson says.

Academy Estates East has ranch-style and contemporary homes from the late 1970s through the late 1990s. Many have Southwestern and Pueblo-style elements and multicar garages. Some have been remodeled or include upgrades. Due to the small size of the neighborhood, inventory is limited. In the 12 months before early January 2025, 12 homes were sold. They sold in the $500,000s to the $800,000s, with square footage being a pricing factor. Special features may include pools, patios, balconies and hardscaping.

The park has a playground, ball courts, sports fields, and is adjacent to the Arroyo del Oso Golf Course, a well-regarded municipal course.

Since the area is so close to the mountains, recreational activities like hiking are common pastimes. It's about a 4-mile drive north to the Sandia Peak Tramway, the longest aerial tramway in the Americas. During winter, skiers take the trip to Sandia Crest.
