There's a lot within walking distance of Academy Hills Park
The small neighborhood of Academy Hills Park is in Northeast Albuquerque. Within it is a park by the same name and an elementary school, and it's close to several shopping centers. There are hiking trails close by in the foothills. "That's kind of rare to have amenities accessible by walking and biking, which I think is really a huge plus," says Torie Robinson, owner/broker with Re/Max Elevate. Another attribute of the area is its proximity to the Sandia Mountains. "When you wake up, the sun is rising over the Sandias," Robinson says.
Shopping centers like Sycamore Plaza and Mountain Run
West of the neighborhood is the intersection of Academy Road Northeast and Wyoming Boulevard Northeast, the site of Sycamore Plaza shopping center. There is a Smith's grocery store, and a Walmart Supercenter, including several stores and eateries, such as Dion's Pizza and Tasty Pot, which serves Taiwanese dishes.
To the east, there's Mountain Run shopping center at Eubank Boulevard Northeast and Juan Tablo Boulevard Northeast. It has another Smiths, as well as some locally owned businesses. Cinnamon Sugar & Spice Cafe makes its goods from scratch, has a demonstration kitchen and offers cooking classes. There's La Quiche Parisienne Bistro, Horse & Angel Tavern and Spectators Sports Bar & Grill, offering shuffleboard, pool, arcade games and karaoke nights. Also in this shopping center is Your Other Closet consignment shop and Page 1 Books, a large independent bookstore.
Bookworms of Academy Hills Park head to Page 1 Books for all their needs.

Academy Hills Park and other outdoor spaces nearby
Academy Hills Park is a community space within the neighborhood. It has a playground, walking paths and open fields. Soccer players, joggers, dog walkers and kite flyers frequent the park, which has some shaded areas. The Arroyo del Oso Golf Course is a few miles southwest of Academy Hills Park. The facility opened in 1965 and has a driving range, a café and provides lessons. By the course, Arroyo del Oso Park includes athletic fields and courts, a playground and trail access. North Domingo Baca Park, about 4 miles north of the neighborhood, hosts the Heights Summerfest, a free concert series. The mountains are nearby, and popular activities include hiking and skiing. Sandia Peak Tramway, the Americas' longest aerial tramway, is about 6 miles to the northeast.
Southwestern-style single-family homes and townhouses
Many Academy Hills homes were built in the 1970s and 1980s. Their Southwestern architecture may include Pueblo-style elements like stucco exteriors and flat roofs. Driveways and multicar garages are standard. Some homes have been renovated and include various upgrades. The townhouses have architectural styles similar to single-family homes. Because of the size of the neighborhood, homes on the market may be in short supply. In the 12 months before mid-January 2025, single-family homes typically sold in the low $400,000s to the high $600,000s. Townhouses ranged from about $275,000 to $400,000 over the same period.
Many homes around Academy Hills Park are single story homes.
Townhomes can be found around the northern part of Academy Hills Park.
