West of the neighborhood is the intersection of Academy Road Northeast and Wyoming Boulevard Northeast, the site of Sycamore Plaza shopping center. There is a Smith's grocery store, and a Walmart Supercenter, including several stores and eateries, such as Dion's Pizza and Tasty Pot, which serves Taiwanese dishes. To the east, there's Mountain Run shopping center at Eubank Boulevard Northeast and Juan Tablo Boulevard Northeast. It has another Smiths, as well as some locally owned businesses. Academy Hills Park is a community space within the neighborhood. It has a playground, walking paths and open fields. Soccer players, joggers, dog walkers and kite flyers frequent the park, which has some shaded areas. The Arroyo del Oso Golf Course is a few miles southwest of Academy Hills Park. The facility opened in 1965 and has a driving range, a café and provides lessons. By the course, Arroyo del Oso Park includes athletic fields and courts, a playground and trail access. North Domingo Baca Park, about 4 miles north of the neighborhood, hosts the Heights Summerfest, a free concert series. The mountains are nearby, and popular activities include hiking and skiing. Sandia Peak Tramway, the Americas' longest aerial tramway, is about 6 miles to the northeast.
A short 7-minute drive connects this neighborhood to Arroyo Del Oso golf course.

Albuquerque International Sunport, the regional airport, is about 15 southwest of Academy Hills Park.
