West of the neighborhood is the intersection of Academy Road Northeast and Wyoming Boulevard Northeast, the site of Sycamore Plaza shopping center. Academy Hills Park is a community space within the neighborhood. It has a playground, walking paths and open fields. Soccer players, joggers, dog walkers and kite flyers frequent the park, which has some shaded areas. The Arroyo del Oso Golf Course is a few miles southwest of Academy Hills Park. The facility opened in 1965 and has a driving range, a café and provides lessons. By the course, Arroyo del Oso Park includes athletic fields and courts, a playground and trail access. North Domingo Baca Park, about 4 miles north of the neighborhood, hosts the Heights Summerfest, a free concert series. The mountains are nearby, and popular activities include hiking and skiing. Sandia Peak Tramway, the Americas' longest aerial tramway, is about 6 miles to the northeast.
