Eastridge combines a suburban atmosphere with city convenience
Eastridge is a midcentury suburban neighborhood that blends into the cityscape of east Albuquerque. It is notable for its convenience to major area employers like Kirtland Air Force Base and its access to citywide shopping destinations. “It’s one of those areas where there are more renters than owners,” says Realtor Jim Shive with Keller Williams, who has over 12 years of experience in the area. “It’s close to highways and shopping, and the homes are older and reasonably priced. All of that makes it a great neighborhood for first-time buyers and renters, but there are also lots of people who buy there and stay for a long time.”
Midcentury ranch-style homes dominate this southwestern neighborhood
Midcentury homes are predominant and packed together on Eastridge's streets. Many have drought-resistant landscaping and backyards large enough to accommodate in-ground swimming pools. “Lots of homes in Eastridge are older. Many were built in the 1960s and 1970s and are pretty small – 1,700 square feet is the average size,” Shive says. “You’ll mostly find brick ranch-style houses, but there are some with stucco siding and those more traditional southwestern features.” Prices range from $320,000 to $625,000, varying based on square footage, number of bedrooms and status of any renovations.
Manzano High offers diverse clubs and activities
Students in Eastridge are zoned to attend Chelwood Elementary School, which earns a C from Niche. Jackson Middle, just under 2 miles from the neighborhood, receives a B. Manzano High on the south side of the community scores a B and offers over 30 clubs and activities, including a Native American Club and a Sports Medicine Club. Private alternatives include Calvary Christian Academy, a faith-based school serving kindergarten through 12th-grade students.
City amenities at Los Altos Park and hiking trails east of Tramway
Summer Hills Park, roughly in the center of the community, has a small playground and a paved walking path shaded at either end by mature, leafy trees. West of Tramway Boulevard, hikers can wander through the foothills of the Sandia Mountains on any of the east side trails. Golfers will enjoy the neighborhood’s proximity to Los Altos, an 18-hole public course 3 miles southwest of most Eastridge homes. Los Altos Park, across the highway from the golf course, is home to a skatepark, public swimming pool and multiple baseball diamonds.
Juan Tabo Boulevard is home to restaurants and grocery stores
Along Juan Tabo Boulevard, which forms the neighborhood's western boundary, residents can shop for groceries at Albertsons Market or Walmart Neighborhood Market. The closest Walmart Supercenter is about 3 miles southwest of the community in Towne Park Plaza, a shopping center that is also home to Sam’s Club. “There are lots of strip malls and shopping centers in the area,” Shive says, pointing out that Coronado Center is just 4 miles away. Restaurants just across Juan Tabo include Zu Hot Pot, Basil Leaf Vietnamese Restaurant and ABQ Coffee.
Tramway Boulevard and I-40 make Eastridge accessible
A major north-south connector for east Albuquerque is less than a mile from Eastridge. “The neighborhood is right by Tramway Boulevard, which is your best connection to Interstate 40,” Shive says. Residents can opt instead to take surface streets when commuting to Kirtland Air Force Base or Albuquerque ER and Hospital. However, I-40 is the most direct route to the University of New Mexico and the Albuquerque International Sunport.
