Mountains flank the flat greens of Ladera Golf Course
Ladera West is close to several trails that lead into the Petroglyph National Monument, though the neighborhood has several green spaces of its own as well. Rinconada Point Park has a pickleball court, a basketball court, workout equipment and a sandy playground. The Ouray Dog Park features an obstacle course and separate spaces for small and larger breeds. Water is available for hotter New Mexico days when pups can be found cooling off in small inflatable pools. The Ladera Golf Course makes up a large portion of Ladera West, the longest playing yardage course in the city. Spanning 27 fairways, including a 9-hole executive course, the grounds juxtapose the rocky Albuquerque Volcanoes to the west and the towering Sandia Mountains to the east. “It’s a driving factor given how popular golf is,” Cordova says. “It’s a pretty desired sport across the city.” The public course also has a 19-hole disc golf course and hosts events like Thirsty Thursday, with live music, food and drinks.
IPA vinaigrette salad and local beers at Bosque Brewing
The flat, natural landscape that surrounds the neighborhood gives way to local restaurants, gyms, a grocery store and other conveniences in the south. Several casual restaurants are located along Unser Boulevard in the more industrial, southwest portion of the neighborhood. Neighbors Westside Bar & Grill serves burgers, sandwiches and crispy appetizers like fried pickles, fried mushrooms and flash-fried Brussels sprouts, among other dishes made from scratch. The restaurant also has a full bar and over 90 beers on tap, as well as karaoke every Wednesday.Bosque Brewing Co., a New Mexican chain, has a location in Ladera West. Beer flights brewed in-house are available, as well as cocktails made with its house-crafted vodka and gin. All lunch orders come with a complimentary soda and a side salad, which can be dressed with IPA vinaigrette. Immediately south of the neighborhood, a Walmart Neighborhood Market is surrounded by fast-food restaurants.
Pueblo-style townhouses and stucco bungalows
New traditional bungalows from the 1990s and 2000s were often built in red brick or sandy shades of stucco. These homes range between $270,000 and $450,000, and many come with patios shaded from the New Mexico sun. Two-story new traditional homes with tuck-under garages and Pueblo influences—mostly constructed in the early to mid-2000s—fetch between $330,000 and $430,000. Many of these larger homes are clustered on the western side of the neighborhood, and some have room for outdoor amenities like pools, swing sets and fire pits. Three-bedroom townhouses in flat, Pueblo-style buildings cost between $260,000 and $300,000.Ladera West is about 6 miles from downtown Albuquerque
Ladera Drive navigates the southeastern side of the neighborhood and its golf course before merging into New Mexico state Route 45 in the north. Also known as Coors Boulevard, the thoroughfare runs along the western side of Albuquerque and connects its many suburbs. Ladera West is also near Interstate 40, which commuters can take to downtown Albuquerque, about 6 miles away.West Mesa High offers humanities, visual arts and technical education
Children in the neighborhood can start their educations at Chaparral Elementary School, which receives a B-minus from Niche. They may move forward to the C-rated John Adams Middle School before finishing secondary studies at West Mesa High School, which scores a C-plus. The high school offers career technical education pathways in advanced manufacturing and process development, computing for the social good and military science.
