Stonebridge Pointe is a quiet westside neighborhood near Rio Rancho
Stonebridge Pointe is a suburban community on Albuquerque’s west side, carved separate from the rest of the city by the Rio Grande. “It’s a nice west side location, a smaller and older community close to some extensive new development,” says Realtor Jim Shive with Keller Williams, who has over 12 years of experience in the area. “They have an HOA, but it’s not a pricey one, and it comes with pool access in the center of the community. Overall, it’s just a quiet neighborhood that isn’t too far from shops, restaurants and Rio Rancho.” While increased construction has brought new businesses to the area, Stonebridge Pointe remains relatively secluded at the northwesternmost reach of Albuquerque.
Single-family homes with southwestern features in Stonebridge Pointe
Most houses in Stonebridge Pointe are stucco-sided with Spanish tile roofs, reflecting the traditional southwestern styles. Ranch-style homes and Modern Traditional builds dominate the winding suburban streets. Front lawns may feature drought-resistant trees, although many have been xeriscaped to highlight native flora. “Most of the homes there were built between the late 1990s and early 2000s,” Shive says. “I’d say there’s a pretty even split between single- and two-story houses, and because it’s older, prices aren’t soaring like they are in other nearby neighborhoods.” Prices can range from $285,000 to $525,000, depending on square footage, build year, number of bedrooms and lot size.
Local schools boast B ratings and championship athletics
Seven Bar Elementary School, less than 2 miles from the neighborhood, receives a B from Niche. James Monroe Middle also scores a B and offers an archery program for interested students. Cibola High earns a B-plus. Since its establishment in 1975, Cibola High sports teams have won 20 state championships in volleyball, boys’ golf and baseball, among others.
Costco and Cottonwood Mall are a short drive from Stonebridge Pointe
In addition to the Smith’s supermarket on McMahon Boulevard, residents of Stonebridge Pointe have access to multiple shopping destinations. “There’s an Albertsons Market nearby that just opened in the past month. That’s one of the main grocery stores,” Shive says. “Cottonwood Mall, which is near the Costco, is also pretty close by.” Unser Boulevard, which traces the west end of the neighborhood, has seen a development boom in the past few years, leading to the addition of coffee shops like Dutch Bros Coffee and Italian eatery M’tucci’s Moderno. “The shops and restaurants on Unser have been catering to the newer, more expensive homes in the neighborhoods around Stonebridge,” Shive explains. “Stonebridge Pointe residents get to reap all the benefits without having the extra cost.”
The HOA-maintained community pool supports active lifestyles
Stonebridge Park in the center of the neighborhood has a small playground, a shaded picnic shelter, a basketball court and is home to the community pool, maintained by the HOA. Black Arroyo Park on the east side of the community offers a more extensive playground and green space shaded by mature trees. “Paradise Hills, a public 18-hole golf course, is about 4 or 5 blocks away from pretty much all the Stonebridge homes,” Shrive adds. “And the area is practically Rio Rancho, so if you want to you can head up Unser and use the Rio Rancho Sports Complex.” The complex, about a 15-minute drive northeast, is home to several tennis courts, multipurpose athletic fields and baseball diamonds.
Limited crossings at the Rio Grande can cause traffic delays
Many residents of Stonebridge Pointe commute east across the Rio Grande to Albuquerque proper daily. “There are only a few places to cross from the west side of the river to the east side,” Shive says. “There’s Alameda Boulevard, Paseo del Norte Boulevard, Montaño Road and Interstate 40, and when one of them backs up, traffic gets bad on all of them.” Each of these roads eventually connects with Interstate 25, the major north-south freeway for the region. I-25 is the most direct route to the Albuquerque International Sunport.
