Mural paintings, a pump track and pop surrealist art
The Coronado Historic Site is 9 miles away and preserves the area where Vásquez de Coronado entered the Rio Grande valley in 1540. He was searching for the fabled Seven Cities of Gold, but instead, he found 12 villages of Tiwa-speaking native farmers. Mural paintings - some of the best examples of Pre-Columbian art - were uncovered by archaeologists in a ceremonial chamber here and are on view at the Visitor’s Center. Closer to home, the Stranger Factory houses more modern art.
West of South Camino Del Pueblo in Bernalillo, skaters and BMX bikers tame the pump track at Rotary Park, while soccer and baseball teams practice on the adjacent fields.

"Egg-chiladas,” steaks and aged ales
Restaurants and breweries sit about 9 miles southwest, like the Range Café, welcoming diners into a quirky, cow- and cloud-themed setting for green chile chicken “egg-chiladas” with pinto beans and green onion. Craft beer lovers hit up Bosque Brewing North along U.S. Route 550, which offers brewing education scholarships to disenfranchised groups. The Kaktus Brewing Company has been voted the best entertainment venue for the past three years. It offers aged ales with live jazz and blues bands, and belly-dancing on Friday nights. Locals can grab groceries at T & T Supermart along South Camino Del Pueblo.

Cultural dances and a farmers market
Every August, Bernalillo hosts the three-day Las Fiestas de San Lorenzo, honoring God and patron saint San Lorenzo through Matachines dances – continuously performed here since 1693 – live music at the Rotary Park Pavilion and processions of dancers about 4 miles around town. Rotary Park is also home to a farmers market from June through October.
Nearby highways and Rail Runner Express
Residents are mainly car-dependent, and travel Camino Del Pueblo (State Route 313) and Highways 550 and Pan American Central to shops, restaurants and historic sites, while Interstate 25 leads south to downtown Albuquerque. Most of the neighborhood lacks sidewalks, but dusty paths bordering streets allow for walking or biking. The Bernalillo Rail Runner Express carries folks to downtown Albuquerque and back, with stations right off U.S. 550. The UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center is 15 miles southwest, and the city’s main airport, Albuquerque International Sunport, sits 28 miles south.
