Alhambra Hills
Neighborhood in Alhambra, California
Los Angeles County 91803
Ranch-style and Spanish-style homes
Most of the homes here were built during the early- to mid-20th century. Ranch-style layouts and Spanish revival architecture are both common throughout the neighborhood. Over time, numerous properties have been updated with modern interiors and open floor plans while retaining their original charm. In some parts of the neighborhood, newer infill projects and custom builds offer contemporary design options, often with scenic views of the surrounding hills. Most homes go for between $900,000 and $1.2 million. The neighborhood has a CAP Index crime score of 3 out of 10, below the national average of 4.Parks
Green space in Alhambra Hills is pretty limited. However, the neighborhood is just across the interstate from Granda Park, which features walking paths, athletic fields and a playground. It’s also just down the street from the Monterey Park Golf Club, a popular public 9-hole course and driving range.Alhambra Unified's highly rated schools
Alhambra Hills is served by the highly rated Alhambra Unified School District, which has an A overall grade on Niche. Fremont K-8 School has a B-plus grade, while Alhambra High School has an A. Alhambra High offers dual enrollment classes through East Los Angeles College, which is located a few miles south of the neighborhood. California State University, Los Angeles’ main campus is located immediately west of the neighborhood but is separated from the campus by the northernmost leg of Interstate 710.Events
Alambra’s famous Lunar New Year Festival is by far the largest local event of the year and takes place every January or February in the center of the city. The festival features East Asian music, dancing and food vendors and draws tens of thousands of visitors. The planners coordinate with their counterparts in neighboring San Gabriel to make sure the events fall on separate weekends.Transportation
The neighborhood’s incredibly convenient location is a major part of its appeal. On top of its proximity to shopping, it’s right next to the I-10 and I-710, so commuting to much of central and east LA is a breeze — or as breezy as LA traffic allows it to be. “The 710 extension plan fell through a few years ago, so Fremont can get pretty congested for those heading to Pasadena,” says Kwan. Traffic noise from the highway can be an issue for some homes on the south side of the neighborhood, but it is mostly muffled by noise barriers. Alhambra Hills is also just a few blocks away from the Cal State LA station on the San Bernadino Metrolink Line, which connects to Downtown LA and San Bernadino.Tons of shops and restaurants of nearby Valley Boulevard
Although the neighborhood itself is largely residential, there are extensive shopping and dining opportunities just north of the neighborhood, along both Valley Boulevard and Fremont Avenue. The neighborhood is within a 2-mile drive of multiple major supermarkets, including Monterey Park’s 99 Ranch Market and Alhambra’s Costco. As for food options, Valley Boulevard is well-known around East LA for its impressive selection of Mexican and Asian eateries, including the highly rated nearby Indonesia spot, Wayang Restaurant Halal.
