Edwards' housing is relatively diverse, with most construction spanning from the mid-1970s to the early 2000s. Most of the neighborhood's single-family contemporaries and ranch styles are priced from $135,000 to $775,000, with the home's condition and size determining the price. Along Cochrane Parkway, larger contemporaries are priced from $800,000 to $2.4 million. Early-2000s duplexes are priced from $230,000 to $340,000. The elementary and middle schools are within biking or walking distance of most residents. Edwards Elementary School has a B-plus rating on Niche, and Ames Middle School has a B rating on Niche. "There are a lot of international families and students, and consequently, a lot of good food." Operated out of a little white building with a colorful interior, The Dot Cafe serves sourdough sandwiches, various homemade oatmeals and artisanal doughnuts. The Szechuan House is a casual Chinese restaurant serving classic and lesser-known dishes. Just down the street, the Pammel Deli sells halal groceries and hot dishes. Iowa State University's men's and women's basketball teams practice at Sukup Basketball Complex, next door to Edwards.
