Forest Villa also contains some shops and car dealerships. Nearby supermarkets include Lidl, Annapolis Latino Market and Safeway. Bordering the neighborhood to the west, shoppers can browse Amish vendors at the longstanding Pennsylvania Dutch Farmer’s Market, which is open Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Annapolis Town Center is a walkable shopping center with a variety of dining options and retailers like Target, Williams-Sonoma and Kendra Scott.Outdoor recreation along Spa Creek
The neighborhood’s outdoor recreation includes Poplar Trail, a paved, mile-long path that stretches past a residential area and Germantown Elementary. Forest Villa is close to Truxtun Park, a large, wooded recreation area along Spa Creek. Truxtun Park has a public swimming pool, baseball fields and courts for tennis, pickleball and basketball. Boaters can dock at Lafayette Waterfront Park or at one of the wharfs along Spa Creek. Being on the water is a way of life here, and Spa Creek feeds into Annapolis Harbor and the confluence of the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay.The region generally experiences mild weather. “Annapolis has four seasons, so we get the best of all weather,” Akindoyo says. However, summer temperatures can reach the mid-90s. On those hot days, residents can drive less than 5 miles to the nearest beach.
Highways and public transportation in the Annapolis area
West Street, also known as State Route 450, extends east-west across Forest Villa and connects the community to downtown Annapolis. The Annapolis Department of Transportation (ADOT) buses serve the area, including a free downtown shuttle which stops along West Street. Drivers can take U.S. Route 50 westward to Washington, D.C., and eastward across the Chesapeake Bay. “Traffic is generally moderate; it’s not as bad as Baltimore,” Akindoyo says. “You’re not sitting in it forever.” Forest Villa and downtown Annapolis also have bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly streets. The nearest train station is about 20 miles west, where commuters to Washington, D.C., and Baltimore can hop aboard a Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) train. The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is also about 20 miles away.
