Deer Valley
Hiking trails, golf courses and riverside adventure
Public parks are abundant in Deer Valley, with sites like Country Manor Park, which has playscapes, walking paths and baseball fields. The dog-friendly Mountaire Park features a vast open green space, while Harbour Park has a tree-shaded, looped walking trail, tennis courts and sand floor playground. Popular for walking, biking and horseback riding, the 15-mile Via Delta d Anza Trail runs through Deer Valley and connects to many of the regional community parks and schools. The seasonal Antioch Water Park has multiple pools and the outdoor Antioch Skatepark is for skaters of all skills. Golfers can enjoy the 18-hole Lone Tree Golf Course, just west of the neighborhood and next to the Contra Loma Regional Park. This 775-acre park provides miles of hiking and biking trails, a swimming lagoon and an 80-acre reservoir for year-round fishing. Deer Valley is also just a few miles south of the California Delta. Here, the Antioch Marina features boat docks and fishing piers, while the Antioch/Oakley Regional Shoreline offers riverside trails. The Antioch Dunes is America’s first national wildlife refuge, set up specifically to protect endangered plants and insects.Fall festivals and a food truck series
The neighborhood hosts many community events and gatherings throughout the year, including Food Truck Thursdays outside the Antioch Community Center. The series takes place from February through October and includes rotating food trucks plus live music. The neighborhood’s Country Manor Park is a popular gathering spot for watching the city’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show, while Antioch Waterpark offers more than just summertime activities. It also hosts the city’s popular annual Fall-O-Ween event, with a pumpkin patch, mazes and festive children’s activities.A mix of newer housing stock and established homes
Deer Valley has primarily cul-de-sac subdivisions, with wide streets and narrow sidewalks guiding from one subdivision to the next. Most homes were built between the 1990s and 2010s and feature modest, well-landscaped front lawns, typically with two- to three-car garages. Contemporary homes, often with Spanish-style influences, are the most common housing style. However, there are a few more established streets with traditional ranch-styles and split levels, typically built in the 1960s and 1970s. Housing prices range from $500,000 to $900,000. "You can get a 4- to-6-bedroom house here for what you'd pay for a mid-size house closer to San Francisco," says Bay Area Realtor Rich Fleming of Rich Fleming Group. "And homes are newer, by Bay Area standards.”Public schools with dual enrollment classes
Students may attend Belshaw Elementary School, which gets a C-rating from Niche, followed by the C-rated Park Middle School. The B-plus-rated Deer Valley High School offers numerous AP classes and dual enrollment courses in partnership with Los Medanos College.Surrounded by big box stores and local dining
Deer Valley has a mix of fast-food chains and local eateries. Syliva’s Country Kitchen serves American comfort food in a classic diner setting and ID Café specializes in Southern Indian cuisine. Crossings Shopping Center is located within the neighborhood, with a Starbucks, big box stores like Ross and a Safeway for grocery items. Lone Tree Way, along Deer Valley’s southern border, is lined with even more stores, including Walmart, Trader Joe’s and Target. It also features fast-food chains and local eateries, including Ocean 9 Crab Cajun & Seafood, popular for its seafood boil buckets.Next to main highways and the Antioch BART station
Highway 4 borders the neighborhood to the north, a main thoroughfare for traveling outside the city and into other prominent Bay Area locations. Multiple Tri Delta Transit bus stops are located along Long Tree Way, while light rail options are available just north of the neighborhood across Highway 4. “It’s a very car-oriented area, but it’s near the Antioch BART Station, and that is a huge upside for people looking to commute to downtown San Francisco and Oakland,” Fleming says. The Sutter Delta Medical Center is located within the neighborhood, while Oakland International Airport is 45 miles south for both domestic and international flights.
