North Appleton is home to a variety of subdivisions near recreation and retail

North Appleton is a collection of new and established subdivisions on the outer edge of the city. Major roads and busy commercial centers cluster on the neighborhood's south side, while the north side preserves more natural space and farmland. Some subdivisions have neat, grassy lawns lined with mature trees; others are surrounded by flat prairie and forest. Parks and sports facilities are abundant, and the neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, less than the national score of 4.

The neighborhood blends established subdivisions with new construction

Architecture in North Appleton ranges from traditional to contemporary to entirely custom. The community primarily has single-family houses, but condos and duplexes are also available. Homes built before 2000 typically come in Cape Cod, colonial and ranch styles. Custom designs are also popular, some featuring unique touches like asymmetrical roofs, Tudor half-timbering or storybook cottage shapes. Neutral paint colors, stone siding and similar base models give newer subdivisions a more homogenous look. Prices fall between $200,000 and $840,000, with a median of $430,000. However, expansive luxury estates can range between $1.5 and $1.7 million.

In 2025, the city of Appleton annexed two large pieces of farmland from the town of Grand Chute, bringing even more new construction to North Appleton. More than 120 new single-family homes are in development on a 72-acre property off North French Road, and up to 300 homes are expected to be built on a 95-acre lot on North Richmond Street.

Sandy Slope Elementary will rezone most North Appleton students

Depending where they live in the neighborhood, students currently attend Huntley Elementary School or Edna Ferber Elementary School, rated B-plus and B by Niche. However, a new elementary school will open in the neighborhood by fall 2025. District boundaries will change, meaning most students will be rezoned to Sandy Slope Elementary. Next, kids attend Einstein Middle School or Kaleidoscope Academy, rated B and B-minus. Appleton North High School, rated A-minus, has a theater program that presents musicals, Shakespeare plays and an interactive haunted house in late October.

Parks offer sports complexes, lakeside beaches and indoor laser tag

Appleton Memorial Park, one of the area's largest parks, has several ball fields, playgrounds and the Appleton Family Ice Center. "They also host the Fourth of July fireworks display," says Stacey Hennessey, a Realtor with Century 21 Affiliated Realty with many sales in the area. Nearby, the USA Youth Sports Complex features nearly 20 sports fields. "A lot of people take advantage of the walking trails around the Thrivent campus, too," Hennessey says. In summer, Plamann Park offers a 27-hole disc golf course, a farm for kids and a popular lakeside beach. People kayak, swim and scale inflatable obstacle courses along the shoreline. In winter, the park's trails accommodate snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Indoor recreation facilities include Apple Creek YMCA and Xtreme Air, a trampoline and a rock wall. Badger Sports Park has everything from indoor inflatables and laser tag to outdoor go-karts and mini golf.

Retail hubs and local dining line North Appleton’s borders

North Appleton has many retail and restaurant options. "People seem to like the strip malls up there," Hennessey says. "I hear a lot of people go to Copper Rock Coffee." The downtown location, about 20 minutes away, is especially popular, but locals can also head to the location right in North Appleton. Other chain restaurants and locally owned eateries are along Ballard Road, Northland Avenue and state Route 47. The Northland Sports Pub & Grill is a laid-back spot to watch the game, while Draft Gastropub serves craft beer and upscale European fare. Retail options include pharmacies, dollar stores and thrift shops. Supermarkets like Meijer and Festival Foods are just west of state Route 47.

Drivers rely on major roads and I-41

Valley Transit bus stops are plentiful on the neighborhood's south side but less convenient farther north. Interstate 41 connects to other Fox Cities and Green Bay, about 30 minutes away. The Appleton International Airport is roughly 10 miles, and ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton is about 3 miles south.
