The Jefferson County School District R-1 enrolls Candelas’ students, beginning at either Three Creeks K-8 School, earning a B-plus on Niche, or Meiklejohn Elementary, which earns an A-minus. While Three Creeks is located within the Candelas community, Wayne Carle Middle School is just 5 miles east and earns a B on Niche. Nearly all the 13.5 miles of trails surrounding the Candelas community are horseback-friendly. Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge borders Candelas to the north, where residents can cross-country ski in the winter or hit the lakeside in the summer. About 21 miles from Denver and only 15 from Boulder, the Candelas community provides convenient access to several neighboring highways. Route 72, Coal Creek Canyon Road, leads directly south toward Denver, while Route 93 leads north into Boulder. Candelas Parkway is essentially the community’s main road, branching off Route 72 and weaving into various villages. Though Candelas itself is quite walkable, residents may rely on their cars for quick access to amenities as public transportation is quite limited. Denver International Airport is 40 miles east, but the SCL Medical Clinic is actually located within the neighborhood off Candelas Parkway.
