Life Wide Open in Candelas

Vast Rocky Mountain views and luxury custom builds are what give the Candelas community their motto: “Life Wide Open.” Bordering the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge and nuzzled between the bustling hubs of Denver and Boulder, Candelas is far more rural than its neighbors. Residents rely on nearby thoroughfares for access to amenities, but the community itself provides its fair share of walkable parks, dining options and scenic spots.

Luxury homes with unique vantage points

The six villages of Candelas were named after their unique vantage points, allowing new buyers to incorporate their preferred surroundings into their home search. TownView, SkyView, ValleyView, CanyonView, MountainView and ParkView are nearly identical in the opportunities they present for custom builds or pre-loved luxury homes. Tuscan farmhouses, Colorado Mountain Rustic homes and classic foursquare homes often flaunt xeriscape lawns with stones and small shrubs. Solar-powered streetlights line Candelas’ interwoven avenues, those which sometimes feature townhomes, condominiums and duplexes. Many luxury homes are priced between $700,000 and over $1 million, though townhomes and duplexes hover between $450,000 and $600,000.

Environmental studies at Wayne Carle Middle

The Jefferson County School District R-1 enrolls Candelas’ students, beginning at either Three Creeks K-8 School, earning a B-plus on Niche, or Meiklejohn Elementary, which earns an A-minus. While Three Creeks is located within the Candelas community, Wayne Carle Middle School is just 5 miles east and earns a B on Niche. The school partakes in an “Outdoor Lab” each fall, where sixth graders are sent to Mount Evans and Windy Peak to study the environment for a week. Ralston Valley Senior High School has an A on Niche and places an emphasis on athletics, even offering athletic training for students with injuries.

13.5 miles of trails and walkable parks

Nearly all the 13.5 miles of trails surrounding the Candelas community are horseback-friendly. Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge borders Candelas to the north, where residents can cross-country ski in the winter or hit the lakeside in the summer. Class-1 e-bikes are provided for those looking to bike the refuge trails. Welton Reservoir and nearby Standley Lake allow kayaking, rowing and fishing. But Candelas’ Swim and Fitness Clubs have community pools, located in TownView and ParkView. The villages feature their own small parks, walkable to surrounding homes. Church’s Crossing Park serves ParkView, while Maverick Mesa Park is burrowed between SkyView and ValleyView. Haystack Plateau Park, Sarah George Park and Cimarron Park together provide playgrounds, tennis courts, outdoor fitness stations and a community amphitheater.

Candelas Fest

The Candelas community provides events for residents year-round, like Trunk-or-Treat for Halloween, a lively Independence Day parade and an annual easter egg hunt. Candelas Fest is an end-of-summer family event with live music, carnival games, food trucks and more. Day to day, folks may stumble on garage sales or even the Candelas Community Garden, which is seasonally open for growing fresh herbs and watermelon. Nearby, Sprouts Farmers Market provides chef-crafted vegan options, though Target and Natural Grocers may offer similar products just off W 80th Avenue. The Candelas Point Retail Center is located in TownView, a walkable strip for many residents. Here, The Bluegrass Coffee & Bourbon Lounge creates a southwest ambiance with western décor and Southern comfort food. And next door, Resolute Brewing Tap & Cellar has an outdoor patio with fire pits. On the corner, Ziggi’s Coffee is the closest coffee spot for residents to frequent on the go.

Sandwiched between Denver and Boulder

About 21 miles from Denver and only 15 from Boulder, the Candelas community provides convenient access to several neighboring highways. Route 72, Coal Creek Canyon Road, leads directly south toward Denver, while Route 93 leads north into Boulder. Candelas Parkway is essentially the community’s main road, branching off Route 72 and weaving into various villages. Though Candelas itself is quite walkable, residents may rely on their cars for quick access to amenities as public transportation is quite limited. Denver International Airport is 40 miles east, but the SCL Medical Clinic is actually located within the neighborhood off Candelas Parkway.
