About Ashwaubenon, WI

Living in Ashwaubenon means cheering for the Packers

Home of Lambeau Field and the Green Bay Packers, the Village of Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, has seen slow but steady growth over the decades. Part of the Greater Green Bay region, the area’s largest employers include Bellin Health, Schneider and Humana. “We have around 17,000 residents by night time,” says Village President Mary Kardoskee. “But during the day, we have such a big industrial park and sports and entertainment area that our total population goes to around 40,000.”

Titletown offers plenty of places to shop, dine and play

Local breweries, restaurants and shops surround Lambeau Field. The restaurants serve menus ranging from American to Mexican, and nearby shops offer tabletop games, comic books and more. “We have Titletown west of Lambeau Field,” Kardoskee says. “But also in that area, there is a big sports and entertainment district that extends down Holmgren Way and Mike McCarthy Way.” That district, Kardoskee says, holds Capital Credit Union Park, soccer fields and tennis courts. The village’s shopping mall, Bay Park Square, sits just south of the stadium, and national chains like Target and Barnes & Noble add to the area’s shopping opportunities. Museums in the city include the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and Museum at Lambeau Field and the Ashwaubenon Historical Society on Anderson Drive. Near the historical society, the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center hosts live music shows and theatrical performances.

The big game day celebrations are at Johnsonville Tailgate Village

With Lambeau Field at Ashwaubenon’s heart, the village’s biggest events are Green Bay Packers games and the celebrations and tailgating that accompany them. One of the most popular destinations for gameday festivities is Johnsonville Tailgate Village, right next to the stadium. However, this is more to do than Packer-related events. The Ashwaubenon Blast doubles as a reunion for Ashwaubenon High School graduates and an annual carnival for the village’s children. Artstreet is a yearly celebration of local artists that features three days of art, live music and local food vendors.

The Green Bay Metro and two interstates make for a variety of travel options

Sidewalks line some residential streets close to Lambeau Field and other commercial corridors, though others lack walking space. The village is served by the Green Bay Metro, which services stops throughout the area and connects residents to the rest of the Greater Green Bay region. Interstate 41 runs through Ashwaubenon, and Interstate 43 lies just east, so drivers have two ways to reach downtown Milwaukee, which is 116 miles south. The Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport is on the east side, giving residents access to long-distance flights. The area’s primary health care system is Bellini Hospital, a certified Level II Trauma Center.

Weather doesn’t interrupt daily life

According to FBI crime data, most of Ashwaubenon’s crime rates are commonly lower than state and national rates. There were no significant changes in trends over the past ten years. Environmental data indicates that Ashwaubenon’s air quality is worse than that of most of the state’s other cities. With the Greater Green Bay region sitting on the shores of Green Bay 20 miles west of Lake Michigan, the Lake Effect brings harsh, snowy winters to the city. “The snow doesn’t stop us,” Kardoskee says. “We still go outside and play in the snow or ice skate.” Still, Kardoskee says people enjoy it when warmer weather arrives, and new life is breathed into the village. “Summers are pretty mild. They can get a little humid, but people don’t really complain. They just enjoy being out and about.”
