A quiet suburb in West Athens where people put roots
Forest Heights serves as a reminder that Athens is more than just a college town. The city's acclaimed music scene, developing arts community and trendy restaurants help draw people in – and its outlying suburban pockets like Forest Heights offer a place to plant roots. "A lot of people come here and fall in love with the city," says Dr. Celine H. Evans, UGA '08, UGA DVM '12 and an associate broker with Sellect Realty. She attended school and lived in Athens for eight years. "It's the areas like Forest Heights that they move to. This neighborhood is a safe haven for people who don't want to be near the partying or tailgating." Forest Heights is close to downtown Athens but far enough to remain pretty quiet. Plus, its residents love that they're close to shopping. "They get that distance from the University of Georgia but are still close to major stores," Dr. Evans says.
