Bolton is a growing on Atlanta’s Upper Westside
Just south of the Chattahoochee River, Bolton is a developing community in Atlanta’s Upper Westside, overlooked by the Bolton Neighborhood Association. Named after railroad commissioner Charles Bolton in the 19th century, the neighborhood sits next to a major train yard. "Over the last 15 to 20 years, the neighborhood has developed into mixed-use residential and retail districts," says Juli St. George, an award-winning associate broker and team lead at Keller Williams Intown Atlanta. “Anything north, especially the northeast quadrant, has some of the most expensive housing. Developers keep building townhomes, and people still want to be north of the city." Homes in Bolton surround Bolton Academy and are easily accessible to highways and Westside Reservoir Park, Atlanta’s newest and largest green space.
Bolton belongs to the Upper Westside region of Atlanta offering residents endless retail and restaurant options.

It has been the site of community cleanups focused on preserving the natural ecosystem. Near Publix, Sara J. González Memorial Park is a tree-filled triangular green space maintained by the community with a focus on diversity. It features a unity plaza, an all-abilities playground, and programs like “Sprouting Readers,” a gardening initiative with Emory University’s Urban Health Initiative. Three miles south, Westside Reservoir Park is one of the city’s newest parks. Home to an open quarry, it connects to the Westside Trail and draws visitors for its large playground and scenic views.

Scofflaw Brewing Co.’s taproom has indoor and outdoor seating, while Chattahoochee Food Works anchors The Works, a mixed-use development that opened in 2022. On Marietta Road Northwest, The Companion occupies a renovated hardware store with hand-painted murals, bookshelves, and an outdoor bar. Publix at Moores Mill Center is just a mile away. “The neighborhood is close to Vinings. People often go there or to Smyrna and Buckhead for shopping and dining,” she says.
