Cascade Avenue mainly features bungalows and cottages built between 1920 and 1950. A few mid-century ranch-style homes are available, and newly constructed contemporary colonials are starting to pop up. Townhomes are available in the Belmonte Hill subdivision. Several homes here have been partially renovated or entirely remodeled, but many remain in their original condition. Many houses have wide front porches adorned with outdoor seating and hanging plants. They overlook quarter-acre lots with towering pines and oaks. Housing prices range anywhere from $150,000 for a home needing repairs to $700,000 for a new build. Townhomes sell between $180,000 and $230,000.John A. White is the heart of the community with a popular golf course
John A. White Park sprawls across the heart of the community and is known for its nine-hole golf course. The course opened in the late 1920s but was entirely renovated by the end of the 20th century. The park also features a seasonal pool, playground and multi-use sports fields. The city is actively building the John A. White Clubhouse, which will house a golf pro shop, a senior activity center and dining options. The Joseph D. McGhee Tennis Center operates nine tennis courts just north of John A. White Park. Washington High School scores a C. Washington High School was the first public high school in Georgia for African Americans and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cascade Avenue is mainly a car-dependent community, but MARTA buses shuttle across its main thoroughfare. Downtown Atlanta is about 5 miles east of the community, offering access to Interstates 85, 75 and 20, and Interstate 285 is accessible 4 miles west. Grady Memorial Hospital, the community’s nearest medical facility, is 5 miles away in downtown Atlanta. Most of the community’s commercial infrastructure is concentrated along Cascade Avenue. Cascade Heights Center is a small strip mall where locals handle banking needs or grab dinner. Big Daddy’s infuses Caribbean flavors with its Southern-style cooking, serving entrees like curried chicken and barbecue beef short ribs with sides like candied yams and collard greens. Garden Parc is a popular brunch spot with a bottomless buffet and an hour of complimentary mimosas. About a mile north on Cascade Avenue is Kroger, one of the community’s closest big-box grocery stores.
