West Highlands
Neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia
Fulton County 30318
Private community pool and trails connecting to BeltLine
A significant part of the growth on Atlanta’s west side is the development of Westside Reservoir Park, which opened in August 2021 and is now one of the largest parks in the city. “Westside Park used to be a granite quarry. They mined rock out of it, backfilled it with water and built a green space around it,” Baker says. Residents can take the Proctor Creek Greenway to Westside Park, which connects to the larger Atlanta BeltLine Trail. The neighborhood also has several parks, including Herman E. Perry Park, which features a large central wooden playground. West Highlands Swimming Pool Facility operates down the street from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Right next door is a small splash zone, accessible only to members and available by reservation. Surrounded by covered picnic pavilions, the area offers plenty of outdoor couches and poolside tables for birthday parties and neighborhood gatherings. Locals also enjoy access to a shady dog park.Marathon races at Westside Reservoir Park
Thanks to its connection to the Atlanta BeltLine, Westside Park hosts several competitive races each year. Many pass through the neighborhood and become annual traditions for residents to watch. The neighborhood actively participates in clean-up efforts when these races come through. The Monday Night Brewing Westside 10 takes place in December, offering both a 10-mile and a 10-kilometer race. Other popular events include the Westside BeltLine 5K/8K in July and the Westside Park 5K/10K in September.Mixed-use retail at Westside Provisions
Small grocery stores and corner markets line Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway Northwest, just south of the neighborhood. The street, named after a prominent civil rights attorney, is also home to Bankhead Seafood, a restaurant that reopened in 2021 after closing in 2018. Acquired by Atlanta rappers Killer Mike and Clifford “T.I.” Harris, the restaurant is known for its homestyle seafood, including fried fish and hush puppies. The nearest Kroger and Publix are about 5 miles away. Around the same distance is Atlantic Station, an open-air mall with over 50 locally owned shops. On weekends, locals often gather there for events like Cirque du Soleil or ice skating, which runs from November to February. Nearby, the Westside Provisions District offers a corridor of high-end furniture stores, boutiques, cafés, and restaurants. “Jamestown LP, the same company behind Ponce City Market, started identifying areas around the city for redevelopment,” Baker says. “The Westside Provisions District is part of that initiative. This old brick meatpacking plant was gutted and turned into restaurants and high-end boutiques."West Highland's new construction and townhomes
Apartments, townhouses and single-family homes surround the neighborhood’s trails and parks. Homes line clean, curving streets with sidewalks and crosswalks connecting to neighborhood recreational spaces. Developed by Brock Built, West Highlands features various floor plans, including Modern Craftsman homes and brick and new traditional townhouses. Additional construction was completed in 2023, with more planned for 2024. The West Highlands HOA enforces guidelines for lawn care, focusing on weeds, tree trimming and lawn watering. Residents pay annual dues, which vary between single-family and detached homes.Homes range from 1,800 to 2,800 square feet, with current sales prices from $375,000 to over $700,000.
Near downtown, Midtown and I-285
The neighborhood is less than 3 miles from Midtown and just 5 miles from downtown Atlanta without requiring highway access. Within the same distance, residents can easily reach Interstate 285, which connects north to Smyrna and links to Interstate 75. The West Highlands HOA enforces rules prohibiting street parking, and guests must obtain parking passes. While the neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 5 out of 10, it offers security patrols that residents can contact if they feel unsafe. North of the neighborhood is Inman Yard, an intermodal railyard that can occasionally cause noise.STEM-centered learning through Iovine and Young Center
The neighborhood is part of Atlanta Public Schools, which serves around 50,000 students. Boyd Elementary School rated C-minus on Niche, focuses on STEAM education, with initiatives starting in kindergarten and a “Scientist of the Month” program. John Lewis Invictus Academy, also rated C-minus, houses The STEM Academy and honors the legacy of civil rights leader John Lewis. Frederick Douglass High School, another C-minus-rated school, offers a 9th-grade STEAM Academy, 11 CTE pathways and the Iovine and Young Center, a program focused on design, entrepreneurship, technology and art. Many families also choose The Westside Charter School, a B-rated K-8 school founded in 2013, home to Westside University, a summer program featuring classes like aviation, woodworking, and sewing.
