Auburn Lake Trails is a scenic community in the Sierra Nevada
Auburn Lake Trails is a sprawling, mostly gated community in the Sierra Nevada, named for its extensive network of hiking and equestrian trails. Custom homes are set on spacious lots with lots of community amenities like parks, a clubhouse and a small lake. “There’s a couple different clubhouses you can rent out for events and parties. Some people teach yoga or water aerobics. I’ve also seen a lot of equestrian classes and things for single older folks," says Allicen Cooper, a local Realtor at Re/Max Gold with more than 15 years of experience. "It’s all very community minded." Auburn is around 10 miles away, though there are nearby restaurants and grocery stores on Highway 49.
Large lots, some with private equestrian facilities
Auburn Lake Trails has homes on sprawling lots, often spanning a half-acre or several acres. Built since the 1970s, ranch-style homes and wood cabins are most common, and many properties have equestrian stables. “Depending on the parcel, some have the option to keep horses on their own land,” Cooper says. “There’s also boarding facilities, so you can have the horses boarded right there in the community.” Prices typically depend on home and lot size, often ranging from $200,000 to $600,000. Larger builds with more than 2,000 square feet usually sell for between $500,000 and $1 million. Empty lots range from $25,000 to $250,000 for between a half-acre and 15 acres. The area has a high fire risk, and insurance premiums may be comparatively higher than in lower-risk areas. Station 72 of the El Dorado County Fire Protection District serves the community.
The community has multiuse trails, parks and a fishing lake
The community is home to more than 20 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, some connecting to more multiuse trails that extend into the surrounding region. Other community amenities include Westville Park, which has a playground, tennis courts and a heated pool. Indian Bow Lake, also known as Rec Lake, has designated areas for fishing and nonmotorized boating. There are also sand beaches, another playground and more tennis courts. Diehl Field, on the other hand, has basketball, bocce ball and sand volleyball courts. The Auburn Lake Trails community also maintains a campground and a nine-hole golf course for residents. The community streets themselves are also good for activities. “The speed limit ranges from 25 to 35 miles per hour, which makes it a great area for kids to run around or ride their bikes,” Cooper says.
Restaurants and groceries are close by on Highway 49
Restaurants and businesses are clustered at the intersection of Highway 49 and Georgetown Road. American River Pizza & Grill was one of the first full-service eateries to open in this area, serving American and Italian dishes with an annual crawfish boil on the restaurant’s anniversary. Cool Beerwerks is a local microbrewery that also serves Hawaiian and Japanese cuisine. Holiday Market is the nearest grocery store.
Nearby public schools score in the B range
Northside Elementary earns a B-plus from Niche. The school’s campus includes a Boys and Girls Club with after-school programs where students play games like kickball and soccer. Starting in the seventh grade, students may attend the B-rated Golden Sierra Junior Senior High, which features a manufacturing and product development pathway that teaches skills like welding and product design.
About 10 miles outside of Auburn
Highway 49 lines the western edge of Auburn Lake Trails, leading around 10 miles to Auburn and Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital. Sacramento is over 40 miles away. Sacramento International Airport is about 50 miles away.
Free summer concert series at local parks
Music in the Park, a free summer concert series, takes place once a month from April to September at parks across Auburn Lake Trails. The community also has many social clubs that meet regularly, including several golf groups, the Dolphins youth swim team and a book club.
