Rocky Ridge
Neighborhood in Aurora, Colorado
Arapahoe County 80017
Classic suburban ranches
The homes in Rocky Ridge may look similar because the neighborhood was built in a stretch from the ’70s to the ’90s. With that said, the variations are infinite. Ranch-style, split-level, bi-level and even tri-level homes with attached one- and two-car garages sit on classic suburban, sidewalked streets, where children ride bikes in clear view of open garage doors or front picture windows. This continuity keeps pricing similar, too, from $350,000 to $600,000 for single-family homes. Smaller townhouses are available from $225,000 to $450,000, and one-bedroom condos start at $200,000.Parks and trails nearby
The neighborhood’s namesake park sits along East Mississippi Avenue and includes a basketball court and a dinosaur-themed playground with replicas of large bones. There’s also a rock-climbing wall and a public art installation titled “Gemstone,” two rock pieces 20 feet high, one shaped like the hogback rock formations in the nearby foothills and the other like a colorful geode. The Toll Gate Creek Trail features a 3-mile north-south bike and walking route that follows a creek by that name through the neighborhood. The trail also hooks up with the Colorado Front Range Trail, a multi-state project that eventually will span over 800 miles.Schools with winning programs
Schools that serve the neighborhood all received Cs from Niche. They include Iowa Elementary, which offers before- and after-school programs; Mrachek Middle, where students can explore their interests in art, music, fitness, robotics, boxing, and other activities; and Gateway High, where students in the performing arts have won superior and excellent ratings at state, regional and national competitions.Remembering their sacrifice
The Saturday before Memorial Day, Aurora holds Colorado Remembers, an event commemorating the anniversary of the Colorado Freedom Memorial, 4 miles north of Rocky Ridge, that honors veterans who have died in the line of duty. The event includes a pancake breakfast, a ceremony, tours and displays of military artifacts.Using RTD to get around
Regional Transit District of Denver bus service in Aurora offers routes on major roads bordering Rocky Ridge, such as South Buckley Road. The closest RTD light rail station is Florida Avenue, which can be taken to Denver or the airport. Downtown Denver is only 20 miles by car, taking I-225 north to I-70 or south to I-25. Denver International Airport is about the same distance northeast. From groceries to golf courses
For groceries and everyday essentials, Rocky Ridge residents can shop at Safeway at the corner of East Mississippi Avenue and South Buckley Road, across the street from Aurora Bowlero, if they want to bowl a game first. King Soopers is at the corner of East Mississippi and South Chambers Road. Along Interstate 225 and South Abilene Street, an abundance of retail, entertainment and dining can be found surrounding the Town Center at Aurora mall. Helga’s Haus nearby keeps the pints flowing in a beer garden setting, while the Aurora Hills Golf Course to the northwest is frequently praised as being friendly to golfers just learning the game.Health-care providers nearby
The Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, about 6 miles to the north off Interstate 225 and immediately west of RTD’s light rail station, is the new state-of-the-art campus providing many new services to veterans. Even closer, the Aurora VA Clinic off East Mississippi Avenue offers primary care, laboratory, nutrition and pharmacy services. The closest major civilian hospital is the UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, one of the premier academic research institutions in the country, located next door to the Rocky Mountain Region VA.
