Homes in Southeast Aurora are near recreation and top-rated schools

Southeast Aurora is a web of sidewalks and subdivisions in the quiet eastern region of the Denver metropolitan area. “There are many subdivisions that offer amenities like golf courses and community pools, and the Aurora Reservoir is out there, so there are many family activities that are offered in the Southeast Aurora area,” says Julie Maeda, an employing broker and realtor at Guardian Real Estate Group, who has been in real estate since 2009. “One of the biggest driving factors is the school district […] The Cherry Creek School District is top-rated. Everyone obviously should do their own investigation, but that’s really what Southeast Aurora is known for, as far as bringing families to the area.”

Playgrounds, outdoor activities at Aurora Reservoir and games of golf

Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club has an 18-hole course with public tee times, and the Blackstone County Club is a private, 18-hole course. Anchor Point Park is home to a playground with tot swings and picnic shelters. The Aurora Reservoir spans nearly 12 miles of shoreline and is a popular destination for water recreation, offering kayak and paddleboard rentals during the summer. An 8-mile trail loops around the reservoir, an archery area and a playground. The Aurora YMCA at Wheatlands and Southeast Recreation Center and Fieldhouse both offer fitness memberships and have indoor aquatic centers.

Craftsman influence from subdivisions to condo complexes

New Traditional homes with Craftsman-style elements, including square columns and natural stone or brick accents, are commin in subdivisions. Prices range from approximately $490,000 to $1.8 million, depending on factors such as proximity to golf courses. Home size also impacts price, with many homes in the million-dollar range having between four and six bedrooms. Craftsman condos and townhouses are also available. Condo prices range from about $270,000 to $440,000, and townhouses are priced roughly between $340,000 and $660,000. “A lot of Southeast Aurora are newer homes because that’s an area that has expanded upon within the last 20 years […] Before that, that was all farmland, so you’ll see a lot more newer builds in that area,” Maeda says.

Many houses, condos and townhouses are overseen by a homeowners association or metropolitan district. These groups are responsible for maintaining shared spaces and are funded through assessments or monthly fees. Several communities have parks with playgrounds, and some, including the Wheatlands Metropolitan District, have a pool. The Wheatlands monthly fee is approximately $70. Blackstone, which is home to a golf course, has an assessment totaling around $165 quarterly, which translates to roughly $55 per month.

Smoky Hill Road’s strip mall and Southlands have shops and restaurants

A King Soopers is on Smoky Hill Road in a strip mall that includes Bookmakers Bar & Grill, a local sports bar serving various burgers and bourbons. The Southlands indoor-outdoor mall is also in the area. It features a Sam’s Club, a Walmart and national brands that include Sephora and H&M. Bent Barley Brewing Company has two locations, one of which is at the mall as well. A Color Me Mine ceramic painting studio and the AMC Dine-In Southlands theater are also on the mall grounds.

High-scoring Cherry Creek schools and apprenticeship opportunities

The Cherry Creek School District serves the Southeast Aurora area. It offers magnet schools, open enrollment and accepts non-resident transfers. Applications are processed through a lottery, and placement is contingent upon available space. Several elementary schools are zoned for different regions of the neighborhood. Pine Ridge Elementary earns an A-minus grade from Niche. Both middle schools in the area, Fox Ridge and Infinity, earn A-minus grades. All homes are in the Cherokee Trail High School attendance boundary. The high school receives an A overall and offers apprenticeship programs for which students can apply. Later, applicants may be interviewed by the school’s career and technical education team. The future educator apprenticeship is a popular program that provides hands-on learning and continues for at least one year after high school graduation.

Bike lanes and a toll road tie the community to the Denver metro area

Local thoroughfares, such as Powhaton Road, have bike lanes that share the road with automobiles. Extension 470, commonly known as E-470, is a toll road that connects the area to Denver, about 30 miles away. The road also ties the region to the Denver International Airport, about 20 miles north, and major employers at the Denver Tech Center, a similar distance west. AdventHealth Southlands Emergency Room is adjacent to the mall, just less than 5 miles away. The University of Colorado Anschutz is a major employer and academic medical center that is within a 25-mile drive of the area.
