Homebuyers looking for an area that is peaceful, quiet, and closer to several amenities will enjoy the offering of Nottingham Woods. “It’s a very neighborly and friendly area with a rural feel, but you’re close to a lot of amenities,” says broker at Keller Williams Innovate-Aurora, Cathy Peters.
Homes are on the grander side to match their large amount of acreage. Most homes will be situated along Highway 47 along the neighborhood's west side. “A lot of homes were built in the late 70s to early 90s,” says Peters. “Lots of woods. They are mostly wooded lots, if not that, just larger trees.” Homes usually range between $350,000 to $550,000. Buyers can get ranch homes under 2,000 square feet or split levels for that range. Anything over $550 thousand will be larger Tudor homes or homes with acres of lot space and a private wooded area. These can reach over $1 million.
Within Nottingham Woods are two forest preserves and a golf course. Grunwalk Farms and Blackberry Maple Forest Preserves sit on each side of Highway 47. Both allow for activities that connect residents with nature and its infinite species. Those who love riding horses or taking evening hikes will enjoy Blackberry Maple. Anglers and boaters may love the waters available within Grunwalk Farms. West Main Community and Bark Park is located 4 miles east. Families can enjoy the two fields and athletic courts. Four-legged children will be excited about the three acres available within the off-leash Bark Park. There is also a two-mile walking path. Golfers can enjoy a round of 18 within the public golf courses of Hughes Creek and Bliss Creek.
Students in Nottingham Woods can tend to their studies within the Kaneland Community Unit School District, which carries a B rating on Niche. Kaneland Blackberry Creek Elementary holds a B-plus Niche rating. It has a smaller student-to-teacher ratio of 11-to-1. Harter Middle School holds the same rating on Niche. Students here can enroll in Industrial Arts courses and build up handy skills such as woodworking, drywall hanging and repairs. Kaneland Senior High School has a B Niche rating. Students can enroll in 20 AP courses and take classes within six career fields.
“There’s a couple of nice restaurants. Fireside in Sugar Grove is one,” Peters says. “You could go to Elburn for more bar and grill kind of atmosphere. Otherwise, they go to the Tri-cities [Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, and Aurora].” Fireside Grille serves your pub favorites of sandwiches, burgers and wings. Schmit’s Towne Tap serves weekly specials such as Fish Fry Fridays and Chicken Wednesday that draw a crowd. Burnt Barrel Social is three miles south. This restaurant specializes in bourbon-based dishes and liquor cocktails. Groceries can be picked up at Jewel-Osco, which is in either direction north or south.
Residents can enjoy a four-day weekend full of live music, vendors, and corn at the annual Sugar Grove Corn Boil Festival. This festival has been happening for sixty years, drawing crowds of over 35,000 people. Notable festival highlights include the carnival, fireworks show, car show and 5K run. Those needing to commute to Chicago have it easy as the neighborhood sits above Interstate 88. “It’s off I-88; that’s a huge draw for those that must commute to Chicago,” Peters says. “That exchange just opened a year and a half ago. It’s a newer exchange; previously, you could only go west.” From there, it’s about a 47-mile drive east. Find your peace in Nottingham Woods.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
