Walkable streets with murals to admire
Although it sits right in the heart of the city, less than 5 miles from Downtown Austin's business, culture and entertainment mecca, Holly retains a distinctly residential feel. An eclectic mix of bungalows and bold, new developments line the neighborhood's tidy streets. Holly is highly walkable, and home to eateries like Lazarus Brewing. “I'm a big fan of their patio and beer,” says Ryan Gomillion, a Realtor with Copland Property Group who’s been selling in the area since 2016. “They usually have live music going on.” It's also home to numerous murals, such as the Batman mural at Native Hostel on East fourth Street, and art galleries along East sixth Street.

Thriving nightlife just a few miles away
On the outskirts of Austin, East Sixth Street has replaced West Sixth Street as the place to be when the sun goes down. Live music, artisan cocktails and a hip, laid-back vibe characterize this nightlife district within walking distance of Holly. When dining out, East Cesar Chavez Street is known for its local eateries, like Juan in a Million — a locally owned business dishing up homemade enchiladas, fajitas and other Mexican specialties for over 40 years. “They have some of my favorite breakfast tacos in Austin,” Gomillion says. For a quick grocery run, Whole Foods Market and Target are just off I-35.

Festival and celebrations at Fiesta Gardens
Some of Austin's most exciting events occur at Fiesta Gardens overlooking Lady Bird Lake including Austin Pride Festival, Texas Craft Brewers Festival and Cinco de Mayo Austin. Celebrations such as Cinco de Mayo feature live music, authentic Mexican food, art, dance, games and a kids' zone. Crowds also gather for the annual East Austin Studio Tour, where neighborhood artists open their workspaces to the public to discuss their processes and sell their work.
Vintage characters mixed with new construction
Holly is an appealing patchwork of colorful bungalows with vintage characters and new construction in different modern styles. Well-kept lawns sometimes feature leafy foliage — palms, citrus or banana trees. As East Austin has evolved, modern garden homes, condos and mixed-use dwellings have also become part of the neighborhood's wide streets. A 2-bedroom bungalow in need of some love could sell for under $500,000 while a modern or renovated build could go for over $1,500,000.

The park features modern play equipment, a community garden, tennis courts, a baseball diamond and plenty of room to run and play. The Edward Rendon Sr. Metro Park at Festival Beach is a serene spot on the edge of Lady Bird Lake. It’s an ideal place for a day on the water, a picnic beneath the oaks or a jog along the 10-mile Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail.
