An eastern Bakersfield suburb
Oakridge is a densely populated eastern Bakersfield community just minutes from both downtown and the surrounding California farmland. The neighborhood is a mix of residential streets, farms and commercial properties. “Kern County is one of the best climates in the world for fruit and vegetable production,” says local Realtor Jerry Dufloth of Prestige Properties. “In 2020, the gross value of agricultural commodities in the county was over $7.6 billion.” A good portion of that came from Bolthouse Farms, an agricultural company specializing in fruit and vegetable products, that employs more than 2,200 people and is headquartered in Oakridge.
A mix of modest architecture
Most single-family homes in Oakridge were built between 1950 and 1990 with a few developments going up after 2000. Ranch-style homes and small craftsman-style builds line the streets, and many feature tile roofing. The area is also home to a handful of manufactured home communities and new developments, with properties sitting close together on 6,000-square-foot lots. Manufactured homes range from $30,000 to $600,000, while modern craftsman-style houses range from $200,000 to $450,000.
Oakridge has a wide variety of homes from modern to classic and everything in between.

Kern County produces more oil than any other county in the United States. Because Bakersfield is home to agricultural and petroleum industries — both of which have high emission rates — the area often struggles with elevated levels of air pollution.
