Trading traffic for tranquility
About 6 miles outside Bakersfield, the Rio Bravo Country Club is a place where residents don’t have to deal with the traffic and noise of the city. “It is just so peaceful and serene here,” says Realtor Bob Malkin with Miramar International-Riverwalk. “Rio Bravo is a neighborhood of gated communities, and it’s tough to get in unless you have permission. People come here for the golf and country club — they’re very attractive. But they also come for the quiet. It’s like you’ve left Earth’s boundary.” Malkin has lived in Bakersfield since 1981 and has been selling real estate in the city for 31 years.
Custom-built homes
The gated communities of Rio Bravo include Solera at Kern Canyon, a 55-plus adult subdivision, and those that surround the golf course. “The homes here all have mountain views,” says John Lindsay, a Realtor with Elite Team Properties, who has been selling real estate in Bakersfield for 25 years. “The area is breathtakingly beautiful and made even more appealing by amenities like clubhouses, gyms and social activities.” Single-family homes in the neighborhood sell for as little as $315,000 for a two-bedroom house in Solera and $1.2 million for a custom-built golf estate in Rio Bravo. Many properties feature two- or three-car garages with dedicated golf cart parking. “Everything here is custom,” Malkin says. “Multiple builders influenced the neighborhood, and architectural styles vary.” Condominiums are also available near the entrance to Rio Bravo near the private lake. They list for between $200,000 and $300,000.
Numerous sub neihborhoods are found around the golf course from 55+ to condos, to single family.

Many animal exhibits feature birds of prey kept by the zoo, such as American bald eagles and California condors. The reptile house is a climate-controlled space with snakes, lizards and frogs.
