The historic Baltimore City College, which earns an A-minus, is a public International Baccalaureate World school offering an intense college-preparatory program for high school students. Easily recognized by its 150-foot Gothic tower, the school has been named one of Maryland’s top public schools. Residents can also take courses at the nearby Johns Hopkins University campus. Hopkins is one of the largest employers in Baltimore. “A lot of people walk to Johns Hopkins from here, it’s that close,” adds Knight.Plenty of options to get around town

For groceries, there’s a Giant Food grocery store located at the corner of East 33rd Street and Greenmount Avenue. Following this same route, there’s seemingly endless retailers ranging from clothing and hat shops to casual eateries and laundromats to hair salons, banks and gas stations. Greenmount Avenue is also home to the Waverly Main Street Historic District. Encompassing nearly seven blocks between 29th and 35th streets, walk the avenue and take in some of the community’s iconic landmarks. Start by grabbing a bite at Pete’s Grill, a breakfast/lunch staple, where former Olympian Michael Phelps has been known to dine. Then stop in at Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse to pick up a good read and sip on a hot drink. The 32nd Street Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday year-round from 7AM to noon. Residents can buy fresh produce, meats, and artisanal goods from over sixty local vendors.
