Glen Oaks

More than just Baltimore row houses
Baltimore neighborhoods tend to conjure images of rows of tightly packed brick townhouses in the minds of prospective buyers, and Glen Oaks is no exception. These are prolific in the neighborhood, many set far back from the curb with paved pathways and staircases leading to covered front porches. While these often price between $195,000 and $270,000, they are not the only options available. “There are all kinds of styles in Glen Oaks,” Spivey says. “There are Colonials, Cape Cods, ranch-styles and even some more Modern Traditional builds. There’s a good mix, more than what folks may typically think about in Baltimore.” Prices for detached homes begin around $230,000 and rise as high as $305,000, with many featuring mid-sized front and back yards. The shops on York Road
York Road is a major commercial hub for Glen Oaks, where residents can shop for groceries at Giant or pick up household necessities at Walgreens Pharmacy. This thoroughfare is also home to the Belvedere Square Market. Baltimore’s public market system is the nation’s oldest, and Belvedere Square is among the largest of these storied institutions. Locals grab coffee and a sandwich at Atwater’s, or stock up on pantry staples at The Seasoned Olive. Just across the street, one of Baltimore’s best dive bars beckons. Swallow at the Hollow, which was featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, is famous around the city for its unusual name, its lively game night atmosphere and its irresistible chicken wings.Belvedere Square and movies at The Senator
Belvedere Square’s Summer Sounds series brings live music from local bands to the neighborhood every Friday night from the end of May to the beginning of September, so residents can groove to the music and enjoy cold beers without venturing too far from home. Across the street is the storied Senator Theatre, constructed in 1939 and named one of the top 20 cinemas in the world. Neighbors can catch the latest blockbusters and revivals of classic films in an elegant, one-of-a-kind setting. Glen Oaks is also just 10.5 miles from both Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium, so residents can make the trip to Birdland to tailgate the Orioles and Ravens any time.Charm City schools
Children begin school just across The Alameda at Leith Walk Elementary/Middle School, which serves over 900 students from kindergarten through grade 8 and has a student-to-teacher ratio of 19 to 1. Baltimore City gives students their choice of public high schools, with the closest option being Reginald F. Lewis High. RFL High is both an ESOL site and offers career technical education pathways in agriculture, business and finance. Both schools earn a C-minus from Niche.Chinquapin Run Park
Chinquapin Run Park makes up the western border of the neighborhood. This 76-acre green space traces the path of the Chinquapin stream corridor, which is surrounded by a playground, athletic fields and tennis courts as it trickles south into Herring Run Park. Locals can hike the trails alongside the stream, picnic in the wide open fields or cheer on their children as they compete for glory on the soccer fields of north Baltimore.Up and down Interstate 83
One vital aspect of this neighborhood is its convenience to Charm City’s most popular destinations. “It’s an easy commute on Interstate 83, just 10 miles to downtown, especially for Orioles and Ravens games,” Spivey says. “It’s also not far from the Light Rail, and it’s only about 3 miles from Towson.” Residents can also access Interstate 95, connecting them to Baltimore Washington International Airport 27 miles south.
