Postwar rowhouses make up the housing market

Most of the housing options are two-story townhouses, often with modest front porches and back-alley parking, along the neighborhood’s grid-patterned streets. “It’s all mid- to late-1950s townhouses,” says Charles Billig, a principal broker with A.J. Billig & Co. auctioneers. “It’s been a pretty stable, owner-occupied place since the 1970s at least.” Prices range from the mid-$100,000s to the lower $300,000s, varying by square footage and home condition.

Baltimore City Public Schools is the district for Perring Loch students. There’s a school choice system in place for high schools and some middle school options, where students are placed through open enrollment or a lottery program. Perring Loch is right next to Morgan State University, a public research university and the largest HBCU in Maryland, with more than 10,000 students enrolled.

Getting downtown from Perring Loch

Commuters can either drive 5 miles south to reach Downtown Baltimore and the Inner Harbor or catch a CityLink Green bus that stops along Loch Raven Boulevard. You can also catch flights out of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, which is 15 miles away. MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital neighbors Perring Loch to the north and has offered medical care in the area for over 50 years. You’re also close to several institutions in the Baltimore area. “Living there, you’re not far from the city, but you’re also close to Towson. You have Towson University to one side and Morgan State to the other,” says Billig. “Owners tend to settle there, which helps to make it a community. It’s not always easy to find that in the city.”
