Combo of calm and convenient living

Geography is Woodbourne Heights’ chief selling point. This secluded pocket of suburbia offers an optimal location between a major hospital and a peaceful, streamside park. It’s also within a mile of Belvedere Square, a hotspot for shopping and community connection. “It has an established feel,” says Nikki Monios, a Realtor with RE/MAX Advantage Realty who has sold in Baltimore for 4 years. “The seller I worked with was very comfortable and happy there. There is a neighborhood feel, and people who live there have been there for a long time.”

Brick rownhouses pack the streets of Woodbourne Heights

“The housing stock here is all the same style,” explains Melvin Knight, longtime Baltimore resident and a Realtor with Coldwell Banker. “But they’re solid, easy to maintain and a very good buy.” Brick rowhouses run parallel along Woodbourne Heights’ tree and sidewalk-lined streets. The slim, paved pathways connect to the entryways and terraced stairways leading to the three- to four-bedroom houses. Designed to sit several feet back from the curb, the houses sit on petite front yards. Awning-covered patios are also common features, surrounded by metal fencing and decorated with furniture. Prices range from $135,500 to $257,500.

Lively food market and vintage theatre nearby

Daily essentials can be found along The Alameda, which flanks Woodbourne Heights’ eastern edge. Alameda Marketplace can serve as a one-stop shop during errand runs. The small strip mall includes a SHOPPERS for groceries, along with a Family Dollar, a Planet Fitness and an Exxon gas station. A mile from the neighborhood is Belvedere Square, an expansive food market with ample options for whatever locals may be craving. Snack on a lobster roll from Mason’s or slurp on noodle dishes at Thai Landing. People can also pick up gifts at The Seasoned Olive. When the weather warms up, people from all over the city stop by on Friday nights for Summer Sounds at the Square, which features food vendors and live music. A longtime staple in Baltimore sits next door to the market. The Senator Theatre has an old-school vibe and has been showing movies to locals since 1939.

Streamside walks and picnics at Chinquapin Run Park

A visit to the expansive Chinquapin Run Park provides residents over 76 acres of lush green space. Located along the Chinquapin Stream Corridor—a major tributary to nearby Herring Run and a part of the larger Back River Watershed—this stream’s lush plant life and dense tree cover make for scenic and serene walks or picnics. Locals take pride in having the park, which also features a playground, tennis courts and athletic fields, as part of their extended backyards. Golfers will enjoy the proximity to Mount Pleasant Golf Course, a 1.5-mile drive from Woodbourne Heights. The 18-hole course was once traversed by the likes of Arnold Palmer when the PGA’s Eastern Open Invitational was played there in the 1950s. The course sits within the larger Mt. Pleasant Woods Park, which features an ice-skating arena.

Easy access to major hospital and downtown Baltimore

With MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital sitting just outside the neighborhood, locals may hear sirens as an ambulance passes by, but they also have prime access to medical care. Woodbourne Heights is also nearly equidistant from Towson and downtown Baltimore. Traveling south along The Alameda will lead to the heart of the city and its waterfront promenade. A quick 4.5-mile drive north allows locals to reach Towson University, the Towson Town Center shopping mall and a diverse offering of restaurants and bars. Due to Woodbourne Heights’ location on Baltimore’s northeastern end, locals will have a longer commute to catch a flight at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, about 22 miles away via Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Interstate 95.
