North Central is a mix of homes, history and amenities near downtown

Just outside Battle Creek's downtown business district, North Central blends commercial with residential. "It's more walkable there because it's so close to downtown," says Morgan Damron-Patterson, an agent with Re/Max Perrett Associates who sells throughout the city. Schools, restaurants, parks and Bronson Battle Creek Hospital are all a short distance away. There are also many houses of worship throughout the neighborhood. The Historic Adventist Village is a museum showing the early days of the Seventh-day Adventist faith. Battle Creek Regional History Museum preserves the city’s past through educational exhibits.

Older homes may need updates, and some are converted into duplexes

Homes in North Central are on lots that are mostly less than a quarter of an acre. Styles range from smaller ranch-style houses and bungalows to two-story Craftsman and Prairie designs. “In the northside, really big older houses often get turned into duplexes or businesses," Damron-Patterson says. Most properties were built between the 1920s and 1960s and may require more extensive updates, which is often reflected in the pricing. Prices start at $45,000 and go up to $250,000. There are also a few manufactured homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s that sell between $60,000 and around $100,000.
