In Shore Acres, a part of California's Bay Point area, locals can sail out from McAvoy Yacht Harbor and fish on the shores of marshy wetlands. Shore Acres has a rolling landscape with a military base and industrial properties to the west, while homes on sloping lots rest to the east.
Some residents wake up to hillside views, and many young ones can walk to school. Shore Acres has modest ranches built during the 20th century and a handful of contemporary styles from the last decade. Many manufactured homes are inside the Club Marina Park and Mariners Cove. "Houses in Shore Acres average around $500,000. Some subdivisions, such as California Skyline, have larger homes that average between $650,000 to $750,000," says Jaymie Tumaliuan, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty East Bay, who has served the region for over 10 years.
Young residents attend the Mount Diablo Unified School District and the Pittsburg Unified School District; both school systems are among the top in the county, ranking No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, on Niche. Those to the west may begin their academic journey at Shore Acres Elementary, which has a C-minus on Niche. Kindergarten to fifth graders closer to the southeastern side may attend Willow Cove Elementary, earning a C-plus. These students can move on to Riverview Middle School, rated a C, or Rancho Medanos Junior High, ranked C-plus. Local teens may graduate from Mount Diablo High or Pittsburg Senior High, which has a B-minus and B, respectively, on Niche.
At Bay Point Regional Shoreline, locals can bird-watch, take scenic walks along paved trails or launch canoes and kayaks into Suisun Bay. Boaters should expect to carry their vessel to the docks. Anglers can catch largemouth and striped bass, catfish or white sturgeon in these brackish waters. In 2020, the 150-acre wetland underwent a restoration project to improve public accessibility to the marshes. The community also contains a portion of the Delta de Anza Trail. The multi-use pathway stretches along the canal for over 15 miles. This alternative route can be used by pedestrians, bikers and equestrians looking to travel to surrounding hotspots, such as parks and schools. The path also connects to other trails leading to the nearby cities of Concord, Pittsburg and Oakley.
A retail plaza is situated at the corner of Port Chicago Highway and Pacifica Avenue. Here, residents can pick up fresh vegetables, seafood and pantry items at the local market, La Fiesta Mexicana. A few modest dining options are inside the plaza, such as La Finca Restaurant as well as Joe's Hot Dogs and Chinese Food. Almost hidden among the boats and buildings at McAvoy Yacht Harbor is a little waterside gem, Big Daddy Ross's Café. This relaxed diner serves comforting favorites, like burgers, pancakes and stuffed breakfast burritos. "Most will travel a few miles to Concord for dining or visit the town center to access retailers and major shopping brands," Tumaliuan says.
The community is undertaking several initiatives to enhance its residents' quality of life. Bay Point Utility Undergrounding Project is a decades-long initiative to create a more visually appealing downtown by relocating electrical lines below the ground. The county also continues to monitor the short and long-term hazards of nearby industrial facilities in the west.
At the Pittsburg / Bay Point Station, residents can hop on the BART to commute throughout the region and Tri Delta Transit service for the surrounding area. Shore Acres is located next to Route 4, which grants access to the rest of the Bay Area.
