Homes in the hills
Set into the Berkley’s hills, Thousand Oaks is home to hundred-year-old coast live oak trees, and rock formations that are thousands of years old. “Some people have these gigantic, thousand-ton rocks in their front yards,” says Andrea Gordon, a Realtor with Compass who has been selling real estate in the Bay Area for 25 years. Thousand Oaks is known for its grand homes among the big stones, and a popular dining district on Solano Avenue. It’s also a peaceful place to take a walk. Low stone walls along the sidewalks in Thousand Oaks, and flights of stone steps connect the streets up and down small hillsides leading all the way down to the shops along Solano Avenue.

Great Stoneface Park
Thousand Oak’s unique geology is on display at Great Stoneface Park, where Car-sized rocks and huge stone urns sit idly in the sun. The urns were built by the neighborhood’s developers for aesthetic purposes in the early 1900s, and only one of the originals remains – the rest were rebuilt by the community in 2011. Rookie rock climbers practice bouldering the park’s huge stones, and others just enjoy the sights and environment. Residents can also walk the Indian Trail, a stone staircase that begins at The Alameda and ascends toward Yosemite Road and Great Stoneface Park.
