Bordered by Big Walnut Creek and Blacklick Creek, the community of Blacklick Estates is a Columbus suburb just southeast of the city. Surrounded by several popular highways, this city of less than 9,000 is best known for its central location for work and lower-than-average real estate prices. “People come here for the affordability and the good jobs all around it,” says Don Shaffer, a Realtor with Howard Hanna. Most residents of Blacklick Estates commute for work, particularly to tech jobs in the area. Intel, Google, Amazon and Meta all have industrial centers within 20 miles or less.

Traditional homes east of Big Walnut Creek
The median price for a single-family home in the community is in the low $200,000s, less than the national median price. “It’s a good place for starter homes,” says Shaffer. “But it’s got a pretty good range of price levels.” Homes rarely stay on the market for over a month, averaging 17 days. Midcentury split-levels and ranch-style homes are popular in the northeastern end of the community, while traditional homes from the late 20th century fill the neighborhoods east of Big Walnut Creek.

Convenient for commuting to Columbus and New Albany
The community shares a western border with State Route 317 and is just outside Interstate 270 and U.S. Route 33. Downtown Columbus is about a 20-minute drive west, while New Albany is roughly 15 miles north. There are several bus stops in town for the Central Ohio Transit Authority, and John Glenn Columbus International Airport is 12 miles northwest. The nearest hospital is Mount Carmel Reynoldsburg, which has emergency services and behavioral, nutritional and women’s health specialists.

Students in Blacklick Estates attend schools in the Groveport Madison Local School District, which has a C from Niche. The district has 11 public schools, including Groveport Madison High School, which Niche gives a C-plus and recognizes as one of the 50 most diverse public high schools in the state.

Southern fare at Eddy's Chicken and Waffles
A handful of locally owned and operated restaurants are in the central portion of the area, including the no-frills cuisine of Eddy’s Chicken and Waffles. Chains and fast food fill the region along State Route 317, while retail and grocery shopping is further north, just off Interstate 70.

Hike or bike the Walnut Creek Greenway Trail
Nafzger Park has over 165 acres of waterfront greenspace, several prominent athletic fields and an entry point to the Walnut Creek Greenway Trail. Brobst Park is over 25 acres and has playgrounds, basketball courts and a walking path.
