A gated community in the Lowcountry
Moss Creek's location deep in the Lowcountry imbues a sense of relaxation, especially as the sun sets over grassy salt marshes and Great Blue Herons flutter across the water. The environment is everything to residents, and locals are often out walking their dogs, fishing in the creek or playing golf on the green. And locals take the time to get to know one another. "When we go to the Clubhouse, we're hugging the staff and asking how the family is doing," says local Realtor Dan Prudhomme, team lead and owner of The Prudhomme Team. Prudhomme has lived in Moss Creek with his family for over 20 years. "I used to bring my daughter in there when she was born, so they've watched her grow up." And the community is rich with wildlife. "I have a home on the marsh, and just two nights ago, my wife saw a whole family of foxes just outside our house," Prudhomme says. "We always see eagles flying over the marsh."

Homes on the marsh and on the green
More than half of the homes in Moss Creek are occupied by full-time residents, but a few are second homes or short-term rentals. Housing styles vary greatly. "There's a bit of everything in Moss Creek," Prudhomme says. "On the low end, you have 1,200 to 1,400 square foot homes for around $400,000, and on the other end are homes over 10,000 square feet for a couple million." Each home is custom, but there's ample ranch-style, new traditional and Lowcountry influence. Homes border a golf course, are deep in the woods or sit along the marshes. "Two to three dozen properties are along the water, offering deep water docks a couple of miles from the Intracoastal Waterway," Prudhomme says. Homes along the water tend to cost between $1 and $2.5 million, while homes closer inland typically cost between $750,000 and $1 million.

Dog parks, nature preserves and private marinas
At the heart of Moss Creek, the Fording Island Nature Preserve covers 11 acres of maritime forest and dense wildlife. Two boardwalks connect locals with the island, who explore its winding trails on a bike or foot. It doubles as a shortcut to the Bostwick Recreation Area for folks living by the Racquet Center. The Bostwick Recreation Area is an outdoor social hub with a pavilion where locals have cookouts or picnics. And across from the pavilion is a popular dog park. "The dog park is more for the owners than it is for the dogs," Prudhomme says. "People bring their dogs down to the dog park to drink and socialize while the dogs run around with each other." The dog park is also steps from Mackay Creek, home to the Moss Creek Marina. At the Marina, folks enjoy deepwater fishing or dock boats at one of the slips.
Moss Creek's beating heart is The Clubhouse, which hosts weddings, birthday parties and other community events. Property owners have an automatic membership, which allows access to the Clubhouse's various amenities, like the fitness center, the pool and the tennis and pickleball courts. The two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses weave throughout the community. Devil's Elbow North and Devil's Elbow South offer views of the tidal creek and salt marshes at varying points.

Poolside drinks at Mackay Creek Grill
For dinner, folks head to Mackay Creek Grill. "It's right there down by the pool, so you can order your food poolside," Prudhomme says. "They have pizzas and burgers, and there's drinks. You could be chilling by the pool, and someone will come up and be like, 'Hey, you want another Pina Colada?'" Several people grab their food to-go who don't want to eat poolside. The Clubhouse offers an additional dining option. "The Clubhouse was extensively renovated with dinner service and a real casual bar," Prudhomme says. Locals often grab lunch after a round on the green or a game of tennis. Aldi is about 3 miles outside the gates, ideal for when locals need to grab groceries.
