Stretching along the Boardman’s west border is Mill Creek Park, covering over 5,000 acres of natural landscape in southwest Youngstown. “I just had a bunch of friends move here from California, and they were just amazed at Mill Creek Park, literally amazed with how beautiful it is,” says Neapolitan. Boardman hugs the southern portion of the park, granting access to the miles and miles of hiking trails heading north and south. Locals journey through the Hitchcock Woods or photograph the views at Lake Newport along Boardman. The 294 acres of Boardman Park include a disc golf course, a dog park, and 4 miles of hiking trails. Boardman Park hosts ample public events, such as Music in the Park or youth-friendly events like Mom and Me for Tea or the annual Easter egg hunt. About 2 miles north, Forest Lawn Memorial Park is more of an observational experience, complemented by statues and mature trees.Shopping and dining options line Boardman-Canfield Road
The Shops at Boardman Park feature stores like Target and Best Buy and a list of chain restaurants, including Texas Roadhouse and Olive Garden. Down the road from the outdoor shopping plaza is Southern Park Mall, featuring popular retailers like American Eagle and Macy’s. Restaurant options abound in Boardman. “Boardman has some of the finest pizza around town, and I’ll tell you, Uptown Pizza is the best,” says Neapolitan. After pizza, locals enjoy a hot fudge sundae from Handel’s, the town’s treasured ice cream parlor. “Their ice cream is all homemade, and it’s so delicious. When people stop in Boardman, they go to Handles,” says Neapolitan. Two Giant Eagle supermarkets cater to grocery needs along central Boardman Poland Road.Local students attend top-rated public institutions
The Boardman Local School District operates eight local institutions in the area and scored an overall A-minus on Niche. Many students kickstart their education at Stadium Drive Elementary School, which has an A-minus on Niche and a student-to-teacher ratio of 18-to-1. Students advance to Boardman Center Middle School, where they score above the state average on their tests, according to GreatSchools. The middle school scored a B-plus on Niche. Local high schoolers head to Boardman High School to earn their degrees. The high school is home to the Boardman Performing Arts Center, featuring a professional sound stage and lighting, and the Spartan Stadium, a 7,200-seat multi-sports facility. Niche gave the high school an overall A-minus and ranked it the best public high school in the Youngstown area.Hopping on the WRTA
The Western Reserve Transit Authority serves the Boardman area, and bus stops dot Market Street and Boardman-Canfield Road. Interstate 680 is a popular roadway for commuting, and Youngstown is 5 miles north of Boardman. The Akron Children’s Hospital is in the heart of Boardman, and the St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital is 7 miles north of Boardman’s heart. The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport is 20 miles north when locals need to catch a flight.
