Hidden Valley offers high-end housing close to Boca Raton beaches
Hidden Valley puts its residents close to relaxation. The Boca Raton neighborhood provides a mix of middle and high-end housing surrounded by nearby golf courses, parks and restaurants, and its location between two major highways makes travel easy. The community is also around 3 miles from the coast. Mike Laymon, a broker associate with Signature International Premier Properties, says that proximity and the community's almost-luxury atmosphere make it an attractive option. “You don’t have deep-water access,” Laymon says. “You can’t park a boat behind your house. But you can have a friend with a boat, and that’s the best kind of boat to have.”
Nearby tennis and golf clubs, parks, beaches and the Boca Aquarium
Hidden Lakes Park has hard tennis courts, a playground and picnic areas. To the north, the Delray Swim and Tennis Club has a pool and clay tennis courts. Boca Raton Golf & Racquet Club, a few miles west, takes public tee times for its 18-hole course, with city residents able to reserve them up to a week in advance. The club is undergoing long-term renovations to add a racquet center with tennis and pickleball courts, among other improvements.
Laymon says the closest public beach access that attracts locals is Atlantic Dunes Park, around 3 miles away. However, Laymon says, the most popular beach in the vicinity is Red Reef Park, close to 5 miles south. “It’s absolutely phenomenal,” Laymon says, because it allows visitors to snorkel through a coral reef. The Boca Aquarium, about 4 miles away, has free admission and hosts shark feeding shows on Saturday afternoons.
Mediterranean Revival-inspired homes and condos sit among palm trees
Many of the neighborhood’s houses are influenced by Addison Mizner, an architect who lived in Palm Beach County in the 1920s. Mizner’s homes carried a Mediterranean Revival flavor, with red-tile roofs and stucco exteriors. Some of the community’s newer houses have added New Traditional elements, like partial brick exteriors. Single-family residences with up to three bedrooms often sell between $430,000 and $850,000. Properties with four or more bedrooms can range from $725,000 to $1.7 million. Condos and townhomes typically run from $235,000 to $400,000, though units in the Royal Poinciana gated subdivision are more expensive and can go from $615,000 to $865,000. Residential streets are wide, and many feature sidewalks. Laymon says residents are often seen walking their dogs, and neighbors frequently stop and chat with one another. Various trees, including palm trees, line the roads and sit in front yards.
Boca Street Fest and the Deck the House holiday lights contest
Mizner Park, around 5 miles south, hosts events like Boca Street Fest, which features live music and food trucks. The city runs a Deck the House holiday decorating contest for residents, judging them on creativity, decorations, special effects and overall appearance. Entry is free, and winners receive a trophy and a yard sign. Florida Atlantic University’s Division I football team plays its home games on campus at FAU Stadium.
International restaurants sit along U.S. Route 1, and Publix is close
Several restaurants are near the neighborhood, with many straddling U.S. Route 1. Le Sorelle serves traditional Italian entrees and has an extensive wine selection. Hotdog-Opolis brings Chicago-style dogs to the area. Taverna Kyma offers authentic Greek cuisine in a casual environment. Latitudes, part of the Delray Sands Resort, is an upscale nautical-themed restaurant and lounge with ocean views. A Publix sits next to the neighborhood across North Dixie Highway, and Walmart and Walgreens locations are nearby.
The Palm Beach County School District and school choice programs
Students are served by the Palm Beach County School District. They can attend Calusa Elementary School, which earns an A-minus Niche grade, as does Boca Raton Community Middle School. Boca Raton Community High School offers a Culinary Arts program designed to train students for a career in food service, including through work experience. It receives an A rating.
Florida has controlled open enrollment, letting students attend any public school with space. The state’s Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program creates an education savings account for accepted families, who then receive money for private school tuition and other expenses. Grandview Preparatory School, a private kindergarten through 12th-grade academy, is less than 3 miles away and holds an A-plus Niche score. Florida Atlantic University’s Boca Raton campus has around 25,000 students and is close to a 4-mile drive.
Access to Interstate 95 and Palm Beach International Airport
The neighborhood has Interstate 95 to the west and U.S. Route 1 to the east. Laymon says I-95 can be “a nightmare” during rush hour, and roads generally get more crowded from late November through April, when residents who spend half the year up north return south. Downtown Miami is around 50 miles south, and Palm Beach International Airport is roughly 20 miles north. Delray Medical Center is about a 5-mile drive and has more than 530 beds.
Laymon says hurricanes can impact the area like they can any part of Florida, and many homes come with hurricane panels or accordion-style shutters to mitigate damage — though many residents don’t mind the storms. “We’re weathered,” Laymon says. “We know what to do.”
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
