Formed by the Boise Union-Pacific Train Depot
Boise's Depot Bench came to life in 1925 when the historic Boise Union-Pacific Depot started service to Chicago and Portland. Bordering the famous Ann Morrison Park, the Depot Bench sits directly south of Downtown, where residents enjoy convenience to the most popular parts of the city. Additionally, the neighborhood sits 60 feet above the metropolitan center, giving way to views of the Boise River, Downtown Boise and the Boise foothills. Jody Hinton, a 17-year associate broker with Group One Sotheby's Int'l Realty, says, “People who live in Depot Bench get close proximity to downtown Boise; it’s a very suburban residential area, compared to the urban atmosphere of downtown just a few minutes away.”

Expansive Ann Morrison Park and other green spaces
Spanning more than 150 acres, Ann Morrison Park is the buffer between the Depot Bench and Downtown Boise. Residents will drive from across the city to spend the day at its expansive recreation fields, baseball diamonds and tennis courts. Bocce courts, disc golf courses and horseshoe pits lay near picnic shelters, and walking paths lead to the Boise River and Green Belt. While neighbors would consider Ann Morrison the obvious option for outdoor recreation, locals head to Morris Hill Dog Park and Terry Day Park when they want quieter options with fewer crowds. Morris Hill includes a fenced-in, mulched dog park with various obstacles. Meanwhile, Terry Day Park has a bright blue and green playground with a seated zipline; there's also a picnic shelter, tennis courts and walking paths.

Midcentury residences and Depot Bench streetscapes
Houses start at $500,000 and exceed $1 million, with updated and contemporary Craftsman styles on the market. Bungalows and ramblers here can include up to five bedrooms and three bathrooms. These historic homes were built in the 1940s and 1950s, with a mix of updated features. Fenced-in backyards provide space for back porch furniture, a garden and a detached garage. Single-family homes built after the millennium often have an second floor in addition to the main level and basement – a rare find in the Depot Bench. Hinton says, “Depot Bench has homes with the same character as the North End without the higher price point.” While this neighborhood is primarily categorized as residential, the Depot Bench does experience through-traffic to popular destinations like the Boise Airport, Boise Zoo and Boise State University. Homes on side streets and cul-de-sacs are safe enough for kids to play out front, but main roads running north to south and east to west can get busy sometimes. Modern condos and townhomes are also popular in the Depot Bench, and plans for more developments are underway.

Boise Towne Square for ample retail
Residents can shop for groceries at Albertson’s, or drive 3 miles east along West Franklin and Overland Roads to run errands at massive shopping centers such as Boise Towne Square; hosting dozens of big box retailers spread out among chain and local restaurants. However, several local options also await back home. The beloved Quinn’s Restaurant and Lounge is one of a handful of local spots lining South Vista Avenue. Serving classic American fare and signature dishes from breakfast through dinner, Quinn’s hosts weekly events like “Free Champagne Brunch” and live music during late-night hours. During the week, locals often stop at Primal Coffee on their way to work. In addition to coffee, the shop served pastries and breakfast sandwiches. The historic Depot Bench offers a suburban atmosphere to families who want to incorporate the city's main attractions into their lifestyle with a slower pace than in downtown Boise.
