Table Mesa
Neighborhood in Boulder, Colorado
Boulder County 80305
A mixed bag of housing styles
Homes in Table Mesa are lined along sprawling residential streets that branch out into loops and cul-de-sacs. Lots are large with well-kept lawns, mature trees and driveways. “Table Mesa has all different neighborhoods with different construction,” Furst says. “If you’re in Shanahan Ridge, west of Lehigh, you will be closer to open space, and those tend to be more expensive.” Brick ranch-style homes built in the 1960s are common. These properties span 950 to 2,000 square feet and range from $875,000 to $1.4 million, depending on size and condition. There are also Craftsman homes with farmhouse features such as balconies and front patios. These houses are larger, spanning 2,000 to 4,000 square feet, and are priced around $1.5 million to $2.7 million. Contemporary, multi-story homes built in the 2020s with simple exterior designs, stone accent walls and picture windows range from $2.5 million to $3 million.Several subdivisions throughout the neighborhood have multi-story townhouses that are brightly colored. These properties are often attached in rows within a community and can cost $700,000 to $875,000. The CAP Index crime score for Table Mesa is 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.
Neighborhood parks and trails in the foothills
When it comes to outdoor recreation, multiple green spaces dot the neighborhood. Harlow Platts Community Park has several outdoor facilities, including a playground, picnic shelters, a pickleball court, a nine-hole disc golf course and an inline hockey rink. Viele Lake sits in the middle of the park and allows non-motorized boating on the water. Adjacent to Harlow Platts is the South Boulder Recreation Center. Visitors can enjoy the indoor pool or play on its drop-in basketball court. Other smaller parks include Bear Creek Park, which has slacklining opportunities, and Bill Bower Park, with a nature-themed playground. The Table Mesa Community Garden is located next to the Community United Church and is maintained by Colorado University’s Farm & Garden Club. The western edge of Table Mesa sits at the base of Boulder’s foothills. As such, the neighborhood is the starting point for many trails that wind into the landscape. The NCAR Trail, Shanahan Trail and Bear Canyon Trail all allow hiking and horseback riding. All three are flush with wildflowers and vegetation that support the local wildlife. “The trail system here is not comparable to anything else; it’s super extensive,” Furst says. “Other trails in Boulder are a bit crowded, but the ones here are a bit of a secret.”
Boulder’s A-rated public schools
Children living in Table Mesa can attend either Bear Creek Elementary School or Mesa Elementary School – both of which earn A overall grades from Niche. Bear Creek offers an outdoor education class for fifth graders and has a community garden. Southern Hills Middle School also receives an A and provides an English Development program for bilingual students. Fairview High School maintains an A-plus and, according to Niche, is the No. 5 best public high school in Colorado. The school offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) program and has over 25 varsity sports.Knowing the subdivision communities
Since Table Mesa is broken up into various subdivisions, some of the more expensive areas like Shanahan Ridge, Devil’s Thumb and Highland Park have optional homeowners associations to take care of the micro-community. These groups will also put on block parties and holiday events to bring people together. “Every little community with an HOA will create their own get-togethers, like picnics and garage sales,” Furst says. “Some streets will even create little events.”Getting around Table Mesa
Table Mesa has multiple modes of transportation available. Main roads such as Table Mesa Drive and Lehigh Street have bike lanes, creating a cyclist-friendly neighborhood with a Bike Score of 80 out of 100. “You can ride your bike anywhere. You don’t have to take the roads either, you can take the passes,” Furst says. Public transportation options include Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus stops along Gillaspie Drive, Lehigh Street and Broadway. There’s also an RTD Park-and-Ride at 39th Street & Table Mesa Drive. Drivers can take Broadway, also known as Colorado state Highway 93, to get to Downtown Boulder, which is about 4 miles away.Sporting stores and local restaurants
Table Mesa Shopping Center is the neighborhood’s commercial hub. There are several outdoor equipment and sporting goods stores, including Neptune Mountaineering, Runners Roost and Play It Again Sports. South Side Walnut Café is one of many locally owned restaurants in the area, known for its homestyle breakfasts and gourmet coffee. The eatery regularly participates in community events and donates to charities like the KRD Foundation , an organization that promotes activities and wellness outdoors through cycling. There’s also Sweet Sisters Bake Shop, which crafts custom-made cakes and pies. Southern Sun Pub & Brewery has an outdoor patio where patrons can enjoy the house brews. Whole Foods Market and King Soopers are grocery store options in the shopping center.
