Golfing, mountain hiking and good Southern cooking are what await residents of Brighton, a small Alabama city located just east of Hueytown. Sitting alongside Route 11, Brighton offers an incredibly convenient commute to downtown Birmingham and all its exciting attractions. Here you'll find Craftsman-style homes, full-brick ranch-style houses and split-level homes, with home prices ranging from $35,000 to $70,000. Children in the neighborhood attend Brighton School, which serves over 400 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade. The school offers various activities, including the Beta Club, Writing Club and Imagination Destination. Middle school students attend Hueytown Middle School, while teenagers in the area attend Hueytown High School, which boasts fantastic athletic programs.

The Roosevelt City Recreation Center offers various athletic facilities for locals to enjoy. Youth leagues can practice at the center's baseball field, neighbors can shoot hoops at the basketball court and hot summer days are spent cooling off in the center's swimming pool. Nearby is Woodward Golf Club & Country Club, founded in 1916 by A.H. Woodward, Sr. The club was initially founded as the Employee's Club of Woodward Iron Company and designed by Birmingham sportsman Charlie Hall. The club is the oldest country club in Jefferson Country that is still in its original location. The club boasts a natural, flowing terrain that allows golfers of all skill levels to play 18 championship holes. Amateur and local junior golf tournaments also occur at Woodward Golf & Country Club.

Red Mountain Park's breathtaking views are only a few minutes from Brighton. Visitors to the park are transported back in time, as it's one of the country's largest industrial archaeological sites. Hikers can discover old landmarks and artifacts from the area's mining past through scenic trails. Adventure-seekers can whiz through the mature trees along the park's zip line, enjoying the beautiful views. Of course, there's plenty to experience on foot. The park has 16 miles of multi-use trails that wind through 1,500 forested acres. Residents can bring their canine companions to Remy's Dog Park within Red Mountain Park. Recognized by Southern Living magazine as one of the "10 Great Southern Dog Parks," this doggie oasis has three separate dog parks with shaded areas, benches and open spaces for pups to run and play. The park also has treehouses for visitors to enjoy. Haskell's Hideaway is a 1.37-mile hike from the welcome center, along the Smythe Trail or via the SkyHy Ridge Trail. Locals can cross a long, swinging bridge to the large platform built around a tree that soars into the sky. Visitors enjoy incredible panoramic views of the park from its viewing platform.

Locals rave about Bre's Gourmet Restaurant, which serves up beef tips, homemade lasagna, fresh seafood and the best peach cobbler that may ever grace your lips. Other popular eateries include Church's Texas Kitchen and Uncle Sam's Barbeque. When locals want to stock up their fridge, they flock to the town's Piggily Wiggly for all their household essentials. With scenic mountain trails, a strong sense of community and proximity to downtown Birmingham, Brighton makes for an appealing place to call home.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
